Healing is not optional, it is the very dance of life, essential for a life fully lived.
Understanding our patterns, our loops of thought and what drives them is important for mental emotional and physical health.
But in the modern healing/wellness culture there is a cunning trap- the language of healing has a massive social currency, a currency traded everywhere - online
-in the world of workshops and courses , -in the polished world of guru influencers that could easily become addictive.
The constant work of:
processing
unpacking
revisiting
reframing
“doing the work” can become an identity. A noble pursuit that has a ‘feel good’ factor, a brand of spiritual retail therapy.
And once healing becomes identity you stop moving forward Because forward would mean you would have to stop being “the one who is healing.” And become the one who is fully participating in life taking personal responsibility.
To the nervous system that protects the familiar this may be felt as a threat, therefore it will protect the process (addiction)instead of resolving the conflict.
Years can pass in the loop of:
- more awareness
- more insight
- more language
but not more freedom.
All of the above are valuable, and more often than not essential , but only if they serve to liberate from suffering and help deepen understanding. Otherwise it’s merely a new mask to protect against honesty and radical change.
Real healing is not endless excavation.
At some point healing becomes very simple.
-You see the pattern
-You understand it’s origin- (this is where the help of a great therapist/mentor is invaluable as they will ask you the questions you hide from)
This sets you free to live your life
Healing was never meant to become your personality. It was meant to return you to your life with a level of alignment and assuredness that previously you could only dream about.
