So exciting to introduce our newest physiotherapist here at Donegal Physio Niamh McLaughlin!! Read below about Niamh and give us a call or send us a message to get booked in!

Niamh is a passionate physiotherapist with a dual background as a multi-sport athlete, specialising in sports injuries. My career has been shaped by a commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Professionally, she has extensive experience working in high-performance rehabilitation, multidisciplinary sports medicine, and patient-centered care. Over the years, she has worked with elite athletes, providing tailored treatment plans and specialised rehabilitation for injuries, including ACL recovery, which has become a personal area of expertise. She believes in blending evidence-based practice with a collaborative approach to achieve the best outcomes for my clients.
Beyond the sporting world, she is deeply committed to helping individuals from all walks of life overcome musculoskeletal injuries and post-surgical challenges. Whether it’s guiding someone back to their favourite activity or supporting a return to pain-free daily living, her approach focuses on empowering people to regain confidence in their movement and achieve their goals.

As a lifelong athlete, she understands firsthand the physical and emotional challenges of injury recovery. She has had the privilege of representing teams like Donegal and playing semi-professional soccer in the WSL. Currently, she is competing in the Australian Football League with the Gold Coast Suns. These experiences give her unique insight into the demands of high-level sports and how to support athletes in returning stronger and more resilient.

Balance-related vestibular conditions affect millions of people worldwide.Vestibular disorders are conditions that impact the inner ear and brain, leading to issues with balance, dizziness, vertigo, and spatial orientation.

Most people are not familiar with the term "vestibular," which refers to the inner ear system that communicates with the brain to help us understand our position in space. However, many of us have experienced that disorienting moment when we lose our balance. Whether these symptoms develop gradually or suddenly, dizziness, vertigo, and nausea can turn everyday tasks into significant challenges.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) is an exercise based programme designed to promote central nervous system re-training for vestibular deficits. VRT is grounded in evidence-based medicine and has been extensively researched. It is now considered to be the most successful management approach for people with dizziness and balance problems associated with disorders of the vestibular system.

Emer, one of our chartered physiotherapists has attended numerous specialised vestibular rehabilitation courses, including the NCPS Advanced Course in Vestibular Rehabilitation earlier this year and also achieved a certificate of Achievement on completion of the Vestibular Rehabilitation: A Competency Based Course in London last Summer.

If you are experiencing dizziness or Vertigo symptoms, please feel free to contact the clinic to discuss our Vestibular Assessment and Rehab service.
