In Síoraí Home, we offer hands-on retail training designed to build real skills for real jobs.

Our goal is to:
✔️ Give people training they can use on their CV
✔️ Support their progression plans
✔️ Help move them into mainstream paid employment

Job shadowing isn't just for May — we offer job shadowing opportunities throughout the year in businesses and organisations across Inishowen.

A big thank you to Carn Vet Clinic for supporting Yvonne’s placement! Yvonne is a massive animal lover, and during her time there, she received a full tour of the clinic and even got the chance to comfort two wee dogs before their surgery.

📢 Did you know?

In Ireland, only 1 in 3 people with disabilities are in work — one of the lowest rates in Europe.

Why?
Because of barriers like lack of workplace supports, discrimination, and poor access to inclusive education.

Even simple adjustments like part-time hours or personal assistance are often denied. Many also face bias during recruitment or are excluded once hired.

It’s time for change
We need to back the people, policies, and organisations working to remove these barriers.

✅ Employers – Provide disability awareness training, improve accessibility, and support career progression.

✅ Policymakers – Follow international best practice, reduce red tape, and improve data to drive real progress.

✅ Educators – Ensure inclusive education and smooth transitions from school to work.

✅ Support Organisations – Lead the way in advocacy and person-centred solutions.

📢 Employer Information – Wage Subsidy Scheme (WSS)

Have you heard about the Wage Subsidy Scheme?
It supports employers who hire people with disabilities and helps cover the cost of adapting roles to suit individual needs.

🔹 Sometimes, a person with a disability or health condition may not be able to complete all tasks in a job at the same pace or volume as others. In these cases, the WSS provides a financial subsidy to the employer, while the employee is paid the same rate as anyone else in the same role.

Example:
A factory worker is expected to pack 100 boxes per day. A new employee with a disability can pack 60 boxes per day. The WSS covers the cost of the remaining 40 boxes, making it easier for the employer to adapt the role without a loss.

✅ Key Details:

Employers can receive €6.30 per hour for each hour the employee works (up to 39 hours/week).

The maximum subsidy is €12,776 per year per employee.

The employee must work at least 15 hours per week, and the contract must last a minimum of 6 months.

Employers pay the employee the going rate for the job.

The subsidy goes directly to the employer.
