Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming David & Janice from the Castleblayney Show to Castleross. They kindly came to present our residents with their well-earned certificates – over 20 in total! 🎉

They were so thoughtful and generous, also bringing along a fruit bowl and hamper to share. 🍎🍇🍊

We’ve had another wonderful week celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month here in Castleross Nursing Home.

On Wednesday, we were treated to The Hungry Heifer for lunch. Tommy and Amy were back serving their delicious burgers and chips for our staff, and we were lucky again this year with lovely, dry weather.

In the pictures, you’ll see Gary (Senior Household Coordinator), Greg, Andy, and Phillip (Maintenance), as well as Salin (Kitchen) and Sridevi (Homemaker).

We are thrilled to announce that Salin has been selected as our Employee of the Week this week 👏☺️Congratulations, Salin, and a huge thank you to all our amazing nominees for their outstanding work.

In the first picture, you can also see Head Chef Richard, Mary, and Sridevi celebrating alongside our Employee of the Week, Salin.

A lovely week was had with more precious memories made for all.

A Special Visit at

We had lovely pictures from a recent visit by Marley & Marietta! Our residents always enjoy their time with these furry friends.

Even Dymphna, who’s 103, was having a cosy duvet day – but she was delighted to see Marley and couldn’t help but smile! 🥰

💚 September is Mental Health Awareness Month. Here at Castleross Nursing Home our residents and staff are taking part in a month-long programme of activities to remind us all of the importance of looking after our mental health and being mindful of those around us. After all — it’s good to talk. 💬
👏👏We’re now two weeks in, and here are some highlights so far:
🥣 A Healthy Breakfast Morning brought us all together to start the day with good food and great company.
🌍 On Culture Day, staff shared food representing their own backgrounds — from batch bread and apple tart to butter chicken, chicken and rice, and more! A true feast of flavours.
👏 Our Employee of the Week initiative has been a wonderful way to celebrate our amazing staff. Last week, Debbie, one of our fantastic carers in Killanny House, was chosen. She is pictured in the white t-shirt with Alex, Household Coordinator. Well done Debbie 🎉

And we’re only halfway through🥰 Still to come:
😂 Laughing Yoga with Latisha — always guaranteed to fill the rooms with joy and sore bellies from laughter.
🎲 The Cube Game across all houses — a favourite for residents and staff alike.
📵 No Mobile Mondays in the canteen, helping us reconnect the old-fashioned way.
💐 Plus, plenty more Employee of the Week celebrations, appreciation days, and tasty treats.

It’s been a wonderful journey so far, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the month’s activities. Here’s to supporting each other, spreading kindness, and prioritising wellbeing every day. 💚

Our residents in Killanny House at Castleross have been busy showing off their creativity! Together, they painted some beautiful sunsets, which are now proudly displayed in our hallway for everyone to admire.

A big well done to Bridie, Julia, Gabrielle, Eilish, Mary & Mary for their wonderful work. 💜 Afterwards, Eilish and Sridevi even celebrated with a little dance – the perfect finish to a joyful activity. 💃

🐾A very special visitor brightened up Castleross Nursing Home this week… Therapy dog Marley and his lovely owner Marietta came to spend time with our Residents 🐕

Marley made his way through all three of our Houses to visit all our Residents, spreading smiles, comfort, and plenty of cuddles along the way. 🐶

Our Activities Coordinators, Amy and Frances, captured some wonderful moments of Marley with Bridie, Margie, Eilish & Mary – and as you can see, he was a big hit with everyone 🥰

🍽️ Broomfield Takeaway Night at Castleross

As part of NHI Week a few weeks ago, each house enjoyed a delicious delivery of fresh cod & chips or goujons from our local chip shop, Roma in Carrickmacross.

Our residents absolutely loved that evening’s tea! Noel & Dolores were happy to have their picture taken as they enjoyed their meal. 😊

The evening was topped off perfectly with some brilliant music from Gerry McMahon, leaving everyone with big smiles and happy hearts. 🎶

Bingo is one of the many activities that our Residents can choose from here in Castleross Nursing Home - and it is a very popular one.🥰 So when our Activities Coordinator, Frances, announced that she was holding a monster Bingo in Broomfield House on Tuesday last - there was a flourish of activity and excitement as the Residents from our other houses, "Creevy & Killanny" came to join in.
There were many laughs during the Bingo Session - but it is a serious business too, as there are prizes at stake 🎁🎁
Well done Frances and all involved in hosting another lovely afternoon for the Residents -all in t-shirts and light clothes to accommodate the warm weather 😎🌞

Some of our Residents in Castleross Nursing Home, Carrickmacross, were out and about on August 19th on our trusty 'Tour Bus'. This trip was to Flagstaff Viewpoint Newry that offers breathtaking views. Those on the tour were our Creevy House Residents who also enjoyed a Coastal drive to this scenic spot. Thanks as always to our Bus Driver / Tour Guide, Peter and our team for making these outings for our Residents special.

🍰 Whisk-It Wednesday at Castleross Nursing Home 🧁 where as part of Nursing Homes Week and this year’s theme “A Taste of Home – Where Every Dish Tells a Story”, our residents rolled up their sleeves for Whisk-It Wednesday in preparation for our big Cake Sale on Thursday in aid of Steadfast Castleross; who support skills for adults with an intellectual disability

Residents had a wonderful time decorating & eating their own buns 😋 Our Activities Coordinators, Amy joined in with homemade buns and buttercream for decorating, while Frances baked a delicious rocky road cake and traybakes that went down a treat.

We are delighted to share that our Cake Sale was a fantastic success, raising an amazing amount which we’ll be announcing later this week.

A massive thank you to everyone who helped, supported and donated. We truly couldn’t have done it without you. Special thanks to the local businesses who so kindly donated raffle prizes:
