🩶Massage is a fantastic self-care tool with numerous physical and mental benefits.
🩶Lymphoedema is a complex medical condition and its management often requires a holistic approach.
🩶In my practice I also integrate deep tissue massage, Pilates and breathing exercises to provide comprehensive care.
🩶While MLD (manual lymph drainage) focuses on stimulation of the lymphatic system to reduce swelling and promote proper lymph drainage, deep tissue massage and Pilates allow me to address muscle tension and tightness in other areas of the body. (Please note that MLD and deep tissue massage is never combined in the same treatment)
🩶Many people with lymphoedema and lipoedema experience discomfort or tightness due to compensatory patterns where certain muscles overwork to protect the affected area. By realising tension in these overworked muscles we can support postural balance ensuring that the body is properly aligned and functioning optimally.
Benefits:
🩶Reduces Stress and Anxiety: Massage helps reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels and promotes relaxation, making it great for managing stress and anxiety.
🩶Eases Muscle Tension and Pain: Massage is effective at relieving muscle tension, soreness, and chronic pain.
🩶Techniques like deep tissue or even gentle lymphatic drainage can target specific areas.
Improves Circulation: By stimulating blood flow, massage supports healing and may boost energy levels.
🩶Promotes Lymphatic Health: A technique like Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) encourages lymph flow, supporting the immune system and aiding in detoxification.
🩶Enhances Sleep Quality: By promoting relaxation and reducing tension, massage can lead to better, more restful sleep.
🩶Supports Mental Clarity and Mood: Massage can increase serotonin and dopamine levels, helping to elevate mood and improve mental clarity.
🩶Increases Flexibility and Range of Motion: Regular massage helps keep muscles flexible and improves joint mobility
