HIP BONES DO NOT GO "OUT OF PLACE"!!
When we pick up an injury we tend to move a little differently in an effort to protect it. When we sprain an ankle, we'll limp to protect it a little. When we injure our back or hip we can shift our weight to try to protect it, and this can make us feel a little "offline" or "misaligned". In reality, our back and pelvis are incredibly strong and can withstand absolutely huge forces unscathed. However, "shifting" hip bones often get blamed for every imaginable ache and pain. There is absolutely no science or evidence to back up this theory, quite the opposite! Research shows that the SI joint (or hip bone) can move less than one degree when we are standing, which equates to about 2 millimetres of movement in the joint. They do not wobble or move about. Anybody who tells you they can feel it moving is at best mistaken, or just spoofing. And if you're being told you need treatment twice a week for 10 weeks to put a hip bone "back into place"...that's a business plan, not a treatment plan...

Hi All
From tomorrow, Monday 11th May, Abbey Physio will be re-opening on a phased basis. We will be following all guidelines issued by the HSE to minimize any risk to our patients and staff. All patients will be asked to answer some initial screening questions before booking an appointment, and patients will be issued with appropriate PPE on arrival. Patient appointments will be staggered to minimize interaction/contact and we ask that patients not arrive any earlier than 5 mins before their appointment time. If you have any queries, or are just looking for some advice while cocooning, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

In the coming weeks we'll be looking at the issues we most commonly see in the practice, and giving practical tips on injury prevention and treatment. We'll also be looking at areas of confusion and some of the common myths surrounding aches and pains. If there's any areas you like us to address, comment below or pm us! First up, we'll take a look at the uses, and abuses, of MRIs in the treatment of back pain!
