TOWNLEY MEDICAL PRACTICE – CHILDREN’S FLU VACCINATION CLINICS 2024:

Our children’s flu vaccination clinics will commence in the Practice from Friday 18th October.

This flu season, the nasal spray flu vaccine will be available for ALL children aged 2-17 years. Primary school children should be offered the free nasal flu vaccine in their school.

We will shortly be sending a text message to these patients with a link to the Online Booking System. If your child is eligible for the Flu Vaccine, you should click on the link to book their appointment.

TOWNLEY MEDICAL PRACTICE – AUTUMN 2024 FLU & COVID CLINICS:

Townley Medical Practice' ADULT Flu and Covid Clinics will commence on the 26th September and will run on various dates throughout October for patients aged 60 years and older; and for ‘At Risk’ patients who meet the HSE eligibility criteria.

Patients will shortly receive a text message from the practice with a link to the Calendly Booking System. If you are eligible for the Flu and/or Covid Vaccine, please click on this link which will enable you to book an appointment.

Please find details of a research study being conducted under Dr Conor Judge, Consultant Nephrologist, Galway University Hospital, who is developing an AI tool to help doctors select the best treatments for high blood pressure.

The research team are asking anyone with high blood pressure for their opinions on the potential use of AI in helping to treat high blood pressure.

Congratulations to Dr Tomas' wife, Emma, for her huge efforts with the Irish Cancer Society "Leave our Leave" campaign who petitioned the Government to change the legislation to allow women undergoing treatment for cancer or other serious illnesses to postpone their maternity leave by up to 52 weeks. Fantastic achievement!!

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has announced the expansion of the Free Contraception Scheme to include women aged 32-35.

This means that from 1 July 2024, all women aged 17 to 35, inclusive, will be covered under the scheme.

SPRING COVID-19 BOOSTER PROGRAMME 2024:

The Spring Covid Booster Vaccination clinics will commence in the practice on Monday 29th April 2024 for the following eligible groups:

1. Those aged 80 years and older

2. Those aged 12 or older with immunocompromise associated with a sub-optimal response to vaccination.

3. Those aged 70-79 years who, following discussion with a healthcare provider, request vaccination.

The HSE have also recommended that those living in long-term care facilities, and those aged 5-11 years with immunocompromise associated with a sub-optimal response to vaccination also receive a Covid booster vaccine as part of the current programme. These groups will receive the vaccine from HSE mobile vaccination teams.

Please note that it must be at least 3 months since your last Covid vaccine or infection before you can get a booster done.

The Practice will be closed on the following dates over the Easter period:

Friday 29th March -- Open 8:30am until 1:00pm for Urgent Care Appointments ONLY
Saturday 30th March – CLOSED
Sunday 31st March - CLOSED
Monday 1st April -- CLOSED
Tuesday 2nd April – The Practice re-opens. Normal opening hours 8:30am - 5:30pm
