Why is it important to adjust the screen brightness correctly?

Our eyes are subjected to a significant amount of strain every day due to the screens of phones, computers and other gadgets. Incorrectly adjusted brightness can lead to problems such as:

▫️Eye strain
▫️Headaches
▫️Dry eyes
▫️Sleep disturbances

Tip: adjust the brightness to suit the lighting in the room - the screen should be neither too bright nor too dark.

Save your eyesight!

Night mode, or "warm" screen lighting, reduces the amount of blue light emitted by your phone or computer. Blue light can disrupt your sleep because it suppresses the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps you fall asleep.

But is night time good for your eyes?

💡Studies show that night mode reduces eye fatigue and improves comfort when using gadgets for a long time. However, it cannot fully protect your eyes from eyestrain, so it is important to take breaks, use moisturising drops, and monitor the brightness level of the screen.

So, night mode is a useful, but not the only way to keep your eyes healthy.

Believe it or not, wearing make-up can affect the health of your eyes! Here are some tips to keep your eyes healthy even with regular make-up:

▫️Always clean your brushes and tools. Dirty brushes are a source of bacteria that can cause infections!

▫️Do not apply make-up to the inside of the eyelid. This can block the sebaceous glands, which are important for moisturising the eyes.

▫️Clean your make-up before going to bed. Makeup residue can cause irritation and dryness of the eyes.

▫️Avoid old or spoilt make-up. Mascara or eye shadow that has been stored for more than 6 months can be dangerous to your eyes.

Why should you not sleep in contact lenses? 👁️

Sleeping with your lenses on can cause serious problems for your eyes 👇🏻

Corneal oxygen deprivation: during sleep, the cornea receives less oxygen and the lenses further restrict access to it. This can cause swelling and discomfort.

Increased risk of infections: lenses trap bacteria, and in a warm, humid environment while sleeping, this can lead to infections such as conjunctivitis or keratitis.

Discomfort and irritation: lenses can become dry and uncomfortable, leading to eye irritation in the morning.

Remove your lenses before going to bed, even if you are very tired, to keep your eyes healthy! 🤍
