You are setting yourself up for failure!

🤔But dreaming big can come with pitfalls. Mainly because you see here and you see there, but you don’t pay attention to the bits in between. And those are the HARD bits.

This could not be truer than for mums. You don’t have time for anything, so you want to hit your goals in the shortest amount of time possible. And why wouldn’t you.

⚠️But in doing so, you set unrealistic expectations on yourself. ⚠️

You fall into the trap of believing it is some failure on your part, in your personality or make-up, that is the root of your struggle.

Wanting fast results is normal. And the idea that it can be ‘easy’ if we just do ‘x, y and z’ is beyond temptation.

But I want you to stop. Consider all the ‘x, y and z’s’ you have done for years and you are still in the same spot.

When I work with clients, one of the first things I do is break everything down. We work together to see what will work for THEM. And it is under constant review. Because knowing when something is NOT working, and CHOOSING to change it, that is POWER.

Ever wondered why your path to food confidence seems so convoluted and windy??

Because it is supposed to. 🤷‍♀️

I get why you expect it to be more straightforward. Social media, and some spectacular advertising by the diet industry, have led you to believe that if you just do 🅰️ you will get to 🅱️. And when that doesn’t happen, you get frustrated. You believe there is something wrong with you.

I want to be the first to reassure you that when your journey goes all up and down, your highs are followed by the lows, it is NORMAL. You are unlearning years’ worth of food rules and restrictions.

⚠️That is NOT going to happen in a straight line. And you need to get ok with that. Or else the spiral of frustration and disappointment will be never ending. ⚠️

If your kid starts learning multiplication for the first time, there will be good homework days and bad. One day it all seems to click for them, only to feel like they are back at the start the next.

💡Learning anything new is a process.💡 And on those days where you feel like packing it in, you need to remember the end goal.

🎉Eating without guilt or shame.
🎉Finally allowing all the foods you love.
🎉Trusting yourself and your body.
🎉Have more energy.
🎉Living a life NOT dictated by the number on a scale.

Drop a 💖 if you struggle to keep going when things don’t quite go to plan. And hit that follow button to learn how to finally feel at ease with food.

Before you put a food back in the shelf because you believe it is ‘bad’ because it is ‘processed’, remember that a chopped apple is processed!

Attaching a word does nothing but fear monger and further promote the concept of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ food.

The truth is that there are so many other reasons we select a food;

👉🏻cost
👉🏻availability
👉🏻preference
👉🏻culture

Try focusing on what works for you and your family first. And then see what you can ADD that works too!

Do you tend to steer clear of ‘processed’ foods believing they are all ‘bad’ for you?? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!💕

I don’t know what mom needs to hear this, but what you eat matters less than how you feel when you eat!!

Yes, this goes against every piece of diet advice you have received in your life.

It will also feel counter-intuitive for most of you. Because ‘calories in v calories out’, ‘good’ food and ‘bad’ food and all these other rules have dictated what you eat for years.

🤔Consider this, you have followed all these boundaries and regulations, and yet you remain stuck!

But breaking free from the comfort of your discomfort can seem overwhelming. Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t right❓

Now I want you to consider trying just 1️⃣ of the suggestions above. See which appeals to you the most or scares you the least.

👉You see, if you eat when you are hungry, you will start to become in tune with your hunger cues.

👉If you slow down and eat without distractions, you will start to notice when you have had enough. Meaning you are going to overeat less.

Being stuck in the cycle of binge and restrict can be hard AF to break free from. But I can help you learn to trust your body and be confident in your food choices. I will meet you exactly where you are and hold your hand, step-by-step. 💞

So what does this mean?

How often have you eaten something that you didn’t truly enjoy because you thought it was what you ‘should’ eat❓

I am guessing more times that you care to admit.

What about eating something you really enjoyed, but because you believe you ‘shouldn’t’ have eaten it, that joy was stolen? Replaced by guilt or shame‼️

💥To achieve REAL satisfaction, you must factor in enjoyment.

How can we do this though without feeling completely out of control??

1️⃣Eat what you really want. 🤷‍♀️ Before you start rolling your eyes that this will lead to a full on binge, I want you to consider this ➡️➡️If you know there is a slice of your favourite cake available, doubling your salad portion at dinner won’t do anything! So, eat your salad with dinner, and then cut yourself a slice. And then do this ⬇️⬇️⬇️

2️⃣Savour every bite. Eat slowly. Take note of flavour and texture. By taking your time your body, and brain, can achieve ultimate enjoyment, making it much more likely you will walk away satisfied.

3️⃣Don’t wait until you are starving to eat. This will drive you to eat quickly, with 0 awareness of what you are eating. And that makes it much more likely you will finish looking for more food, despite having eaten enough.

A lack of joy from food after years of dieting can result in many unhealthy eating habits.

I remind my clients that they can and should enjoy their food. After all, if you love what you eat, you are going to stick with it long term!!

And I speak from personal experience. Because I was where you are now.

👉Flipping between restriction and loss of control.
👉Feeling like a failure if I couldn’t stick to a diet.
👉 Eating to the point of feeling awful or spending my day wanting to eat but believing I should’t.

🧱But about a year ago I hit a wall. I could no longer sustain what I was doing. My body and mind were equal parts broken and exhausted.

So, I made the decision to step away from dieting and focus on how my body felt, first and foremost.

The biggest lessons I learned❓❓

✅Until I learned to recognise my hunger and fullness cues I would never feel comfortable with food.
✅I had to let go of the idea of what I believed my body ‘should’ look like and embrace the size that was healthy for me.
✅I shifted focus from how I looked, or what I weighed, to how I FELT.

You could follow every meal or exercise plan out there to a T. But until you go deeper, your journey will continue in circles.

SAVE this post as a reminder for every time you feel yourself looking for that next diet, or magic fix. And remember, having support and guidance as you explore your relationship with food eases the burden greatly.💞

The world and its mother have an opinion on what you should eat. And that can get confusing AF.

And it is particularly bad online.

⛔One person is telling you to avoid carbs.

⛔Another saying up the carbs and drop the fat.

⛔Or my pet peeve, ditch all the sugar and processed foods.

I am surprised more of us aren’t walking around with whiplash the way ‘advice’ changes.

The most frustrating part of it all?

Choosing what to eat is the LEAST complicated part. 🤯

And while that feels like the biggest LIE you have ever heard, I promise you, here and now, that it is NOT.

It is the EMOTION attached to food that is the cause of your struggle.

And that is where I WILL HELP. Hit that follow button if you want food to just be another part of your day with no guilt, shame or anxiety attached. 💞💞

If there is one thing, I wish we could leave behind in 2022 its ditching the desserts!!

One of the first things so many of my clients say to me at our first consult is,

“But I don’t eat dessert!”. As if that defines whether they are ‘good’ or ‘healthy’‼️

And if I am honest, I don’t give a 💩 if they do or not.

How many times have you said,

- “Oh, I’m not eating dessert, I’m being good”
- “I am so bad for eating this”, or
- “I really shouldn’t”

Trying to improve your relationship with food by excluding all the foods you enjoy is going to be a short journey to sweet f***y adams. 🤷‍♀️

If you are READY to make 2023 the year you let go of the GUILT and make dessert part of your life again, follow the ✨link in my bio✨ to organise a FREE Discovery Call. (Or if that sounds a bit scary, we can chat in the DMs).

Working on your relationship with food is not easy.

But what is so much harder is spending the rest of your life feeling guilt and shame about what you eat.

If you feel like you overindulged yesterday, the solution is more simple that you believe!!

The feelings of guilt that can hit after a day centred so strongly around food can feel overwhelming. 😞

Especially if you bargained with yourself yesterday. This can look like:

👉🏻I’ll eat this now, and I’ll be ‘good’ tomorrow!
👉🏻I made sure I was ‘good’ yesterday so I can eat what I want today!
👉🏻I’ll eat it all today so it’s not around tomorrow!

It may alleviate the guilt in the moment, but creates more stress and pressure the minute your eyes opened this morning.

And that is a fast track to losing control‼️

Instead focus on hydration. Eating regularly and getting so fresh air.

And before you tell me that won’t ‘undo’ yesterday, you have NOTHING to undo.🤯🤯

Eating, drinking and moving will improve mood, energy and help you feel in control. 💕

Hit that ❤️ button if you have post-Xmas guilt and SHARE to help other mums.

If you are so much as considering picking up another ‘new’ diet in the New Year, I want you to ask yourself this…

Why do you think this one will ‘work’❓

‼️Because despite what you tell yourself, they are all built on the same principle.

⛔️restriction
⛔️shame
⛔️guilt

And ain’t nobody got time or interest in that roundabout.

It is hard to see past the potential ‘results’, I get that. 💕

But you deserve more.

👍🏻more happiness
👍🏻more confidence
👍🏻more self-belief

And you can have that and more. You might not see it. You might not believe it.

But I do. With a strength that burns my ass!!

Don’t make this year the year you ‘finally lose weight’. Or ‘finally have willpower’.

Make it the year you finally do something different. Something that builds you up, not tears you down.

Now go ✨share the s**t out of this✨to encourage every mum you know to put herself first. 😘😘

Stepping away from weight-loss goals will benefit your mental and physical health.

Your relationship with food, and your body, should always take priority. 💕💕

13/12/2022

Do you know how this statement always made me feel??

Like a failure‼️

It gave the impression that if I could not do this ‘simple’ thing there was something inherently wrong with me.

I mean they make it sound so easy.

And when it doesn’t work, you end up believing that you don’t have the,

😔Willpower
😔Self-control
😔or Capability

To achieve your goals.

I am here to tell you, it is BU****IT!!

There are so many factors at play. And failing at a diet is not a negative reflection on you. Those suckers are designed to fail.

So, if you want help healing your relationship with food. To start feeling confident in not only your food choices, but also your ability, hit that FOLLOW button.

Because from one mom to another, you deserve to go through life without guilt or shame about eating. 😘😘

My anxiety has been creeping up the last few weeks.

I feel like I have been paddling so hard and the current keeps pulling me back, no matter what I do.

The logical part of my brain knows this is so common this time of year.

But my mom brain just keeps pointing out what I’m doing wrong.

There is so much to do for everyone else that I am completely lost in the mix. Some days you forget who you are.

There is no big revelation to this post. No nugget of wisdom.

Just the hope that even one other mom can feel a little less alone. That we can all realise that doing the best we can is enough for now💕
