Doherty, Sheila — Age 90, of Peabody, formerly of Castles, Isle of Doagh, Clonmany, County Donegal, Ireland. Beloved daughter of the late Henry and Kate Doherty (Denary). Sheila was predeceased by her devoted husband of over 52 years, Thomas A. Doherty, in April 2010.
Sheila immigrated to the United States in 1953 at the age of 19. Shortly after her arrival, she met the love of her life at an Irish dance— a serendipitous encounter that blossomed into a beautiful marriage and lifelong partnership. Together, they built a home rooted in faith, love, laughter, and strong Irish traditions. Sheila’s infectious laughter and warm spirit brought joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Loving mother of Henry Doherty (Gail), Rosemary Kearney (Michael) of Lynnfield, Kathleen Doherty (fiancé Michael Frehe) of Chicago, Thomas Doherty of Wakefield, Sheila Ryan (Christopher) of Lynnfield, and Maureen Gaffney (Bernard) of Simsbury, CT. Cherished grandmother of Kerrie, Kevin, Mathew, Kristen, Daniel, Sean, Patrick, Thomas, Shannon, Christopher, Conor, Bernard, Brendan, Meghan, and Mary Kate. Proud great-grandmother of Charlotte, Brogan, Owen, Nova, Landon, Dakota, and Maverick.
Sheila had 14 brothers and 3 sisters and is survived by Joseph, Ambrose, George and Martin.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, corner of Grove and Salem Streets, Lynnfield, on Monday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield, prior to the Mass from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheila’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
