What a wonderful afternoon !!!!
On what was a very dreary Saturday we set off on our eagerly awaited trip to Ardfinnan Church to meet Fr. Michael Twoomey and hear the story of the new and youngest saint, St Carlo Acutis. We received such a warm welcome and were greeted by our wonderful volunteer Celine who helped to organise the day. We spent time at the shrine and received a special blessing from Fr Twoomey while we touched the relic.
We then adjourned to the local hall for refreshments ( sincere thanks to our chef Varghese for providing a delicious tea) and a singsong before returning home with gift packs made up especially for our residents by the church secretary Orla. Our sincere thanks to Kitty who had the hall toasty warm for us and to Bibi our HCA who came to support us for the afternoon. It was lovely to have family members join us for the trip aswell.
It is with great appreciation that we thank all who so kindly supported both Claire and myself(Mary) to make the day not only possible but the great success that it was.
As ever the outing would not have been possible without our driver Philly who gave up his afternoon for us and the Clonmel & District Wheelchair Society who we are so very grateful to as always for making trips out possible.

It has been another very busy week here in Rathkeevan !
We had great fun making hats for snowmen in crafting class and we had a full house when Tom came to play on Thursday afternoon. Our Men's Chat Group met on Friday and we had a huge interest in our topic for this week's History Appreciation Group and our knitting group is busy preparing for our Christmas Craft Fayre. A sincere thanks to all our volunteers who support Claire and myself (Mary) in running our Activities programme. We couldn't do it without you all.

We have had such a packed programme this Summer that we are still catching up with our fb posts. We had a wonderful day out when we visited Glencomeragh where we were met with the warmest of welcomes and most generous hospitality. The afternoon was filled with delicious food, great chats, songs and stories. We were delighted to have the Bishop join us for tea and cake and were treated to him singing for us. He has certainly been blessed with an exceptional voice. It was a thoroughly enjoyable outing from start to finish and we managed to squeeze in a little time to light candles and enjoy the beautiful music performed for our residents before a great send off. Our annual trips to Glencomeragh are always so special and we so appreciate the effort put in by all there to ensure our residents have the very best time.

What a fantastic afternoon!!!!!
We are so grateful to Caroline and Keris for bringing Winston and Teddy the alpacas to spend the afternoon with our staff, residents and visitors and to Lena for gifting a visit from the Icecream Van . It was such an enjoyable afternoon. The alpacas visited every corner of Rathkeevan and their visit went down a treat as did the icecream!

What a wonderful afternoon!
We took an outing to visit Ormonde Castle in Carrick on Suir!
We covered the history of the castle on Tuesday last in our History Appreciation Group and followed up with a visit there today. To say it was a hit is definitely an understatement. We received such a warm welcome from Paul who was our guide for the afternoon. Our first stop was in the exhibition space where Paul explained the history of the castle with some funny stories added to the mix. We then headed for the audio visual room to enjoy two short films relating to the story of the castle and a wider history. We finished off our tour with a visit to one of the castle's rooms where he continued his talk about life in the castle back in the 1500s.It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Our sincere thanks to Paul who brought it all to life with his indepth knowledge of the castle. A huge thank you also to our wonderful volunteers Helen, Teresa and Celine whose help on the day was invaluable. Of course without the support of the Clonmel and District Wheelchair Association none of it would have been possible. Since thanks to Philly our driver for looking after so well and we are looking forward to our next spin out already.
Thanks to everyone involved and best wishes
Mary and Claire.

This week we had the pleasure of marking Onam which is an annual Indian festival celebrated by our Indian community. Our crafting class together with over fifty residents, staff ,visitors and family members spent six weeks working on our mandala under the watchful eye of our wonderful crafter Helen Raftery. It was definitely a labour of love and was made to resemble the fresh flower mandalas usually made during Onam.
Our Indian carers, staff nurses and kitchen staff work so hard throughout the year and care for our residents with great gentility and kindness. We greatly appreciate all that you bring to our residents everyday communicating not just through English but with 'na cupla focal' as well. It is lovely to hear 'Conas tá tú ?' on the corridor when passing.
It was a pleasure to work with you in creating this art piece and of course our afternoon treats were enjoyed by all on the day. We wish you all every good wish for the next year until Onam comes around again.
Best wishes and sincere thanks to you all from all here in our Rathkeevan community.

Harvesting the last of our scallions, onions, courgettes and tomatoes this afternoon. Also did a spot of apple picking ! I had great help clearing out the greenhouses and tidying up the pots. What a bumper growing season we have had on this our first time growing from seed to plate. It has been a wonderful experience for us all.
Sincere thanks to our volunteer and horticulturalist Teresa Murphy who helped us to plan it all and who donated many of our organic plants. A huge shout out to Claire who did trojan work helping our residents to water and feed and maintain our flowers and vegetables. We also had great support from staff and family members who helped out with watering during the hottest days especially Jim Haide who gave us tomato plants from his own garden .
The biggest thanks to our Director of Nursing Natalie who embraced our idea for an edible garden from the start and who went above and beyond in her support of the project. A big thank you also to the owners of Rathkeevan who once they saw both the plan and the vision generously gave us full funding to achieve our goal.
What a fantastic summer it has been. Looking forward to doing it all again next year.
Sincere thanks to Hilary Gregory for being the best help this afternoon. Couldn't have done it without you!
