Clinic closure - We have taken the decision to close our clinic until March 29th (at the earliest). We realise the inconvenience this may cause to people with upcomimg appointments but we believe it is best for everyone in the long term. For those who attend the clinic, you will know that exercise rehabilitation is a big part of what we do. We aim to continue offering advice, rehab progressions etc through email. Please feel free to contact Ronan at crossephysio@gmail.com or Sean at gerandsean@eircom.net if you have any queries.

Gluteal-strengthening exercises are widely used fro improving running performance. However, as running occurs primarily in the sagittal plane, such strength exercises have focused on the gluteus maximus and its role in producing ground reaction forces as a hip extensor. Injured athletes like to recover and return to play as quickly as possible, and we need to balance return to play against impaired strength, performance and risk of reinjury. Initial injury rehabilitation often commences with isometric exercises, progressing into concentric/eccentric style exercises when isometric tests are pain-free. Finally high load eccentric exercises such as the Nordic hamstring are introduced for their positive effects of increased strength, fascicle length and reduced injury risk.
High level and eccentric exercises are often avoided in the early stages of rehab, for fear of aggravating the injury. What if we could commence higher-level and eccentric exercises safely at an earlier stage? Would this impair or accelerate your patients' recovery?
