Bereavement Information Evening for bereaved parents.

All Anam Cara events are free and open to parents whose child or children have died, regardless of the age of their child, circumstances of their death, or time since bereavement.

This event will take place online on Tuesday 19 May at 7pm.

Our guest speaker this month is Niamh Finucane. Niamh is a Principal Social Worker with St Francis Hospice, working as the Bereavement Co-ordinator. She has worked in palliative care and bereavement for the past 20 years, supporting patients and their families navigate illness, and loss. She has extensive clinical experience working with and supporting families after the death of a loved one.

One of the main things we hear from parents who end up using our services is that they wish they knew about Anam Cara earlier. Almost 65% of these parents report using the Bereavement Information Evenings as a first point of contact. This is where your role as a trusted professional in your community really makes a difference to Anam Cara-- this is why we send you these emails.

Your signposting to these evenings can make all the difference in the life of a parent navigating the death of a child.

The death has occurred of Brendan Walsh, Green Court, Cashel and formerly Bansha, Co Tipperary.

Brendan passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday. He is pre-deceased by his brother Jeddie, sisters Helen and Lucy and daughter-in-law Jessalynn. He will be sadly missed by his son Brendan, grandson Stephen, grand-daughters Clodia and Brennalynn, great-grandchild Daithí, brothers Willie, John Joe and Don, sister Frances, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

John passed away peacefully at Tipperary University Hospital on Friday morning surrounded by his loving family. He is pre-deceased by his wife Ann. The death has occurred of Catherine (Kitty) O’Dwyer, (nee Tobin), Ormond Stores, Kilsheelan and formerly Breanormore, Grangemockler, Co Tipperary.

Kitty passed away peacefully at Tipperary University Hospital on Tuesday morning after a short illness. She is pre-deceased by her husband Buddy and son Pierce. She will be sadly missed by her daughters Siobhán, Anna, Caitríona, Rosie and Carmel, sons Seán, Michéal and Tomás, brother Harry, grandchildren, great-grandchild, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brother-in-law Johnny, nephew, niece, extended family and friends.

Maura passed away peacefully in the tender care of the staff of Sonas Melview Nursing Home on Sunday morning. She is pre-deceased by her husband Charlie, brothers and sisters. I am reaching out to let you know about our next online Bereavement Information Evening for bereaved parents. All Anam Cara events are free and open to parents whose child or children have died, regardless of the age of their child, circumstances of their death, or time since bereavement.

This event will take place online on Tuesday 14 April at 7pm.

Our guest speaker this month is Bryan Nolan. Bryan has an M.A. in Healthcare Chaplaincy from DCU and is a Certified Healthcare Chaplain with specialisations in end-of-life, grief, and loss care. He has worked with the Irish Hospice Foundation for over 13 years.
These sessions are designed to help bereaved parents understand the unique elements of parental grief and gently signpost to supports. Berevement Information Evenings can be a great first point of contact for grieving parents as the barrier to access is very low. All are very welcome.
