If your child is mentioned hypermobility-Not all children that are hypermobile need to be seen for physio . However, accute or sudden onset of pain in joints that is different to typical growing pains , pain affecting function ex. Climbing stairs or not able to participate in physical activity , signs of fatigue while walking- often due to bones in feet being very flexible would benefit from physio assessment for hypermobility . Refer below the signs and symptoms for hypermobile and scoring for Beighton scale

Knee gaiters or knee immobilizes is an external brace to support standing and weight bearing for children who have no experience in weight bearing due to tight hamstrings or increased imuscle tone or perhaps developing contractures .

Knee braces can be used as a night or functional support to assist function e.g standing or weight bearing ( not for walking) and by all means be used, as long as it is comfortable for the child . With influences on social media there are times families or clients biased from therapy viedios promoting specific tech or method in the name of new therapy . Apparently social media is a tool for marketing not a measure of clinical evidences .

Principles of typical development, understanding atypical movement patterns , neuroplasticity, motor control, and motor learning should be the frameworks that should guide clinician interventions—not trends.

( It's a perspective from another clinician and a fact !! )

Low muscle tone , joint hypermobility and flat feet are often interlinked and can be present in individuals with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). Children with DCD may have hypermobile joints and related muscle weakness, which can make it challenging for them to acquire movement skills.

Joint hypermobility, where joints bend further than usual, can also contribute to muscle weakness, as the muscles supporting the joints may be underdeveloped.

Wait for services can be hard at times in the community locally or elsewhere. To bridge gap or to reduce wait we run specialised clinics..

The below clinics are run by specialised physio led ..

1. Developmental check clinics for babies ( under 1 year )
2. Toddler clinics for pervasive developmental screening ( 12-24 months )
3. Motor management or muscle tone management clinics for CP over 2 yrs and for all GMFCS levels.
4. DCD/ Dyspraxia assessment with Occupational therapist
5.Posture management or seating clinics for CP
6.Postural or mobility equipment clinics ( stander/walker) or trial clinics for all needs
7.Night resting hand splinting / casting clinics
8.Serial casting or turtle bracing for ankle / feet .
9. Spinal correction or scoliosis management through postural ex's ( less than 10 degree Cobb's angle )
10. Toe walking screening ( both sensory and idiopathic/ musculoskeletal) and management

We are calling babies , infants & toddlers ( under 2 yrs) who are prem / low birth weight and querying delay on motor milestones e.g
not rolling , sitting , crawling , standing or walking – Come we are to help and advise you at the right direction ! 💙

Our next clinic is in April ( 2nd Saturday) exclusively for babies and infants who are prem and low birth weight and risk of brain injury and we’d love for you to avail us!

✅ Who can join? Babies , infants and toddlers who are delayed to achieve motor milestones or physical development!
✅ Why come along? Get to know reason for delay and to bring on tips from strategies that help for early development in a welcoming and supportive space!

We’re focusing early intervention through this clinics and want to make sure babies or infants still have chances to develop better when seen at the right time to avoid any secondary complications.

Today is world downsyndrome day : Just thought of sharing info on down syndrome associated arthritis symptoms that ye may watch out for your child from 11-16 yrs ..

Swelling in Joints (Commonly in Smaller Joints- wrists / fingers )
• Morning Stiffness, Slow to ‘get going’
• Biting/ Rubbing joints
• Grimacing
• Limping
• Slowing Mobility
• Reduced Range of Movement (Restriction in Movement of Joint e.g. Elbow, Wrist and Knee)
• Behavioural Change
• A Change or Dis-improvement in Handwriting
• Pulling Away from Hand Holding.
• Regression in Motor Milestones in some cases
