There are no manuals for the construction of the individual you would like to become. You are the only one who can decide this and take up the lifetime of work that it demands. This is a wonderful privilege and such an exciting adventure. To grow into the person that your deepest longing desires is a great blessing. If you can find a creative harmony between your soul and your life, you will have found something infinitely precious. You may not be able to do much about the great problems of the world or to change the situation you are in, but if you can awaken the eternal beauty and light of your soul, you will bring light wherever you go. The gift of life is given to us for ourselves and also to bring peace, courage, and compassion to others.

One of the best articles I’ve read recently about teen mental health.

“(teenagers) are surrounded by negative messaging and too much talk about how they are feeling. They are being forced into extreme introspection that is only ever going to lead to a negative conclusion. Teenagers are incredibly suggestive and if all the talk and messages are negative they will come to a negative conclusion about how they feel.”

So as we, here in Ireland, are in Level 5 for the next 42 day I thought it might be good opportunity to pull some of us together to learn MINDFULNESS from two of the world’s most respected meditation teachers Tara Brach & Jack Kornfield. Right now this 40-day training is being offered FREE of charge (normally priced at €83) and takes less than 15 minutes a day! If you are interested in doing this together I can set up a group where we can chat about our experiences and maybe even get some Irish mindfulness teachers to join us for Q&A from time to time, just comment below and I'll send you the link.

Trish Leonard-Curtin and I will co-facilitate free Power of Small online groups each Wednesday starting next Wednesday 7-7:30pm Irish time (8-8:30pm CEST, 2-2:30pm EST, 11-11:30am PST), throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. These will provide you with a toolkit of small actions and skills to help you transform your sense of overwhelm into something manageable and drop anchor with your values. We hope you can join us. Please share with anyone you think might benefit.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a time of overwhelming uncertainty. This uncertainty coupled with social distancing, self-isolation, and health-related anxiety means that most of us are faced with seemingly infinite unwanted thoughts and emotions. As a result, our lives can become more about damage control than doing what matters to us.
The Power of Small encourages you to live in line with your values while also making space for these unwanted thoughts and emotions. You have the power to tune in to what matters to you. You have the power to choose one small action that will move you closer to living in line with your values.
You can log into these meetings at If you've never used zoom before, it's straightforward, all you need to do is click on this link https://zoom.us/j/557048564 and follow the instructions. It's important to click the 'Join with computer audio' box that pops up. -Aisling

I’ve noticed (on FB, Twitter, even among some of my own family members) that there seems to be confusion about the recent directive from the Irish government with regard to the over 70s, many who have already been doing their part to isolate. The measures have been stepped up. Over 70s are now advised to cocoon i.e. not leave their home at all. Please help to communicate this to anyone who is over 70 or those caring for them. Try to be gentle, kind and compassionate (but firm) while doing so, this is a very tough (but necessary) measure. And reassure them that their family or neighbours or community will support them. More details available here https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/923825-guidance-on-cocooning-to-protect-people-over-70-years-and-those-extr/

This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.

Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.

If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.
