Functional Nutritional Therapy offers personalised support by identifying potential nutritional imbalances that contribute to a persons symptoms & health concerns. The sessions are client-centered founded on nutritional science, working alongside medical intervention. Genetic, environmental & lifestyle factors are taken into account to support the whole person. Consultations:
Initial consultations are 90 minutes: with a focus on the clients health concerns & goals. We will discuss your health concerns and put a plan together. Following the consultation you will receive a pack which includes specific recommendations, meal ideas/plan, recipes & lifestyle recommendations to support your goals. Follow ups are usually 1 hour: these will help you review and celebrate your progress, stay focused, address challenges you might be having and give you additional tools to make further changes. Changes take time and follow up sessions are key to the process of change. As a Nutritional Therapist, with a Dietary coaching qualification and many years of experience working in the community enabling and empowering people in my career, I draw on these skills to support clients to get the best out of themselves. While being supportive and encouraging - I also encourage clients to challenge themselves and accept accountability. I work with the client to educate them to make changes they can adopt as habits for life. I also have a background in competitive sport and huge passion and interest in sport and movement. I have also competed in kickboxing & karate nationally and internationally and played rugby at club and provincial level. I understand the challenges that sport and training can have on the body and the benefits a specific nutritional plan can offer. Diagnostic and allergy testing available if required.

Best of luck to these three nutters from Cobh Triathlon club taking on Barcelona Ironman this weekend 🧑
Richie takes on his first Ironman ( of many πŸ˜‚ if Ber has anything to do with it) and he is in great company with Brendan who does this thing on a regular basis and with Ber becoming a seasoned Iron woman.

They have done tons of training and their bodies and minds are incredibly able. I've had the honor of massaging those temples.
Best of luck you will do amazing πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ§‘πŸŽ‰

Indigestion and heartburn are a signal from your body that something needs attention. Stopping the body from communicating with you by dosing up on Rennie's, PPIs and anti acids is just leading you down a long road of other health issues - vitamin and mineral deficiencies, bacteria infections, fatigue, osteoporosis, bowel issues and many others.

Listen to your body and give your digestion some TLC
If unsure what is the cause of the digestion issues book in for a Nutrition consultation

An allergy, such as to peanuts, produces IgE immune antibodies and may create anaphylaxis. A gluten sensitivity creates a delayed IgA, IgM, or IgG antibody response and typically does not involve anaphylaxis. This is important to know because gluten sensitivity will not appear on conventional allergy tests or skin testing.

Celiac disease is a severe reaction to gluten that causes autoimmune destruction of the gastrointestinal tract. Both are abnormal immune responses to gluten.

Also, the word gluten is technically a misnomer, as the word gliadin is more accurate. But ""gluten"" is the commonly used term.

Grateful to have the health to run the Dungarvan 10 mile road race this weekend, a special weekend marking Mam's 10 year anniversary πŸ’”. Taken so young at 53 to a heart attack it makes me so appreciative of my own health and what I can do to keep my heart healthy.

In Ireland 6000 people die from heart disease every day !

Irish women are 7x more likely to die from a heart condition than from breast cancer.

Research shows that 80% of heart disease can be prevented by 4 main behaviour changes
* Not smoking
*Getting enough exercise over 3.5 hrs a week
* Eating a healthy diet
* Being a healthy weight ( midline belly fat in particular raises your risk )

Exercise does not have to be fancy, it can be cardio or strength based as long as your heart rate is rising and strength based has the added bonus of reducing the belly fat

Get your blood sugars checked and Cholesterol checked annually. In particular triglycerides and LDL cholesterol - both increase the risk and can be reduced by
* Cutting back on sugars ( raises triglycerides) if not used by exercise and movement you will store it as fat
* Cut back on stress, stress raises your body's production of LDL - breathing exercises, yoga, saying NO, avoiding toxic relationship/ friendships
* Cutting back on inflammatory fats - fried foods, baked foods, sunflower oil
* Add more good fats to increase HDL cholesterol ( the healthy stuff that reduces inflammation)- oily fish, olive oil, walnuts, flaxseed and avocado
Thanks Martin Reidy for the great coaching and Cobh Tri club for all the support !

Happy Christmas to all our wonderful customers and friends πŸŽ„β›„πŸ¦Œ

Thank you for all the support this year
Lomu 🐢, Mel, Kate & Ali πŸ’•πŸ’•

Christmas is a special time with loved ones to rest up and connect but we also think of those who have lost someone, have ill-health, have no one, are in refuge & those struggling with infertility. Christmas can also be a tough time, be sensitive to those who may be struggling over this time πŸ’•

This dark chocolate, cinnamon & walnut loaf is like cake πŸ˜‹
Works nicely as a healthy snack or a desert with a spread of butter and it's passed the child approval test πŸ˜‚
Melt 60ml coconut oil and allow to cool a bit
Then mix in 4 eggs, 4 tablespoons honey or maple syrup, 300g ground almonds
1 teaspoon of baking powder, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon and a handful loosely broken walnuts.

Gently fold HALF the mix into a bread tin ( use baking paper to stop it sticking )
Spread another 2 teaspoons cinnamon over the mix in the tin.

Then chop 60g Lint dark baking chocolate - the best !! Into small pieces and mix into the rest of your mix in your mixing bowl.

Add what's left into your baking tin and sprinkle 1 teaspoon brown sugar if you want on top for the crisp effect

Bake for 40 mins in fan assisted oven

If you suffer with constipation, have a child with constipation or just like stewed apple then this recipe is for you.
Stewed Apple with a hint of ginger, combined with rhubarb or raspberries if you prefer.
Key ingredients here are ginger, pectin in cooked apple, rhubarb & flaxseed all super for gentle motility much healthier than harsh medications.
Rhubarb is fresh in Lidl at the moment so works well as it is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory.
The combination of ginger, known for its ability to stimulate motility and pectin fibre from stewed apples also great for motility goes well with rhubarb.
This is gluten free crumble with healing nutrients from flax and the oils in h**p shells. Flaxseed is also great for regulating bowel movements.
