I had a few sessions with Eamonn for a finger/forearm injury, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his expertise. As a rock climber, I’ve dealt with my fair share of injuries, but thanks to Eamonn’s treatment, I experienced the fastest rehab I’ve ever had. We used shock wave therapy, and it was a complete game-changer!

I also really appreciated his professionalism and thoughtful approach. Initially, I assumed dry needling might be the best option, but he took the time to thoroughly assess my injury and explore the most effective treatment for me. His attention to detail and commitment to finding the right solution made all the difference.

I can’t thank him enough for the help—highly recommend!

Following on from the ‘Friday Question’ posted on our story earlier ‘Does massage help with muscle injury recovery?’

In clinic we have been getting a lot of questions about this recently and we have also seen a number of people who have had their injuries ‘managed’ by massage alone - which has been unsuccessful.

Massage may help with pain, but not the way we think or are been told that it does! Massage has NOT been shown to affect muscle tissue, it does not increase muscle length and my most importantly IT DOES NOT ‘FIX’ AN INJURY!

Massage can have an analgesic affect (reduces pain), but not for the reasons we think and many physios, ATs and massage therapists tell us. It is actually due to an emotion-topical or somato-topical effect caused by TOUCH!

Touch (Massage) can be therapeutic and it helps to relax the nervous system which in turn reduces or ‘tones down’ pain receptors in the muscle which lead to a modulated pain response to an injury!

So let’s go back to our original question. Can massage alone help fix an injury? The answer is NO! Massage can be used as part of a treatment but it WILL NOT ‘fix’ the injury! This can only be done with a comprehensive rehabilitation program.

This is often debated but research nor practice backs this statement up!

This is a quite in depth analysis of massage but if you have any questions or would like to find out more please don’t hesitate to get in touch we’d be more than happy with discuss this with you!
