Dairygold Agri Business

Dairygold Agri Business Dairygold is Ireland's largest co-operative, supporting farmers for generations.

Our Story

Munster’s rich dairy farming history began centuries ago as a way for farmers to provide for their families and communities. Combining our deep-rooted farming tradition in the Golden Valleys with our nutritional expertise and technology, we have a clear vision to become a global player in supplying cheese and dairy ingredients. Our vision is echoed throughout the organisation by our farmer shareholders, our factory workers, our dairy scientists and our management team. We have grown to become an organisation that supplies better nutrition for the increasing world population, from infants through to active ageing.

Winter Barley showing the scars of Trace Elements Deficiencies.

Manganese deficiency is a common sight this spring in many winter barley crops despite being treated in late Autumn in a preventative way.

Compromised crops have already lost some yield potential and need immediate attention.

Get foliar Manganese feed applied asap plus Nitrogen to encourage some level of recovery.

For the future manage in a planned preventative
way as it will likely return with all new cropping. Consider dressing seed with Mn, dressing fertiliser with Wolf Trax Mn complex while applying foliar feeds until crop gets > gs 30.

Slurry Agitation

Serious incidents occur every year in Ireland during slurry agitation.

When slurry is agitated, it releases dangerous gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia and most importantly hydrogen sulphide. Even at low levels, hydrogen sulphide can cause collapse and fatal injury within seconds. Because it is heavier than air it gathers in pits, tanks and enclosed spaces. Penny Gavin Health and Safety Systems Lead talking through the important things to remember on farm when agitating slurry.

By understanding the risks and following these precautions, farmers, their families and workers can greatly reduce the chance of accidents.

Remember one lungful of slurry gas can be fatal- always plan ahead and Evacuate, Ventilate and then Agitate.
