Dr Aisling would like to thank you all most sincerely for your recent donations to her fundraiser for Break Through Cancer Research.
I am truly overwhelmed by the generosity and support from everyone. I had hoped I'd reach the €2,000 mark but the final figure is €11,250! This is definitely beyond my wildest dreams.
So many of you said to me it was a great cause and I do think there are very few people who haven't known a friend or a family member who has been touched by cancer. This charity is really doing great work supporting new research into new treatments, and cancer treatments are becoming more and more successful.

We are looking for your help.
There is a group of Ukrainian Refugees living in Glengarriff at Ardnagashel Estate for the last 18 months - families and individuals. They have been given short notice that they have to leave their accommodation by 25th August. These people have made Glengarriff their home at present with the children attending local schools and many of the adults are working part time locally. They have no idea where they will be moved to. Many of them are very upset as they want to stay locally.

Important Information on Vaccinations

MEASLES

As most of you will be aware cases of measles have been detected in Dublin and we are expecting that this outbreak will spread. Measles is a highly contagious disease and each person who contracts it will likely go on to infect 12-18 more people. One of the problems is that the early symptoms of measles can be similar to the common cold and in fact the rash doesn’t appear until 4 days after the person is already infectious.
We are asking parents to please check that your child/children have been vaccinated and have not missed out on the Measles , Mumps & Rubella (MMR) vaccines at the times they would have been offered to them. If your child has received their MMR vaccines when they were due then no further action is required.
We are asking parents who decided not to give their children the MMR to please consider giving it to them now to help safeguard our community. Please remember we have vulnerable people in our community that cannot be vaccinated but are vulnerable- babies up to the age of 1 year will not have received the MMR and people who are immunosuppressed through illness or certain treatments are more vulnerable and can’t receive the MMR vaccine.

MENINGITIS

We have recently had a lot of enquiries about the availability of the vaccine against Meningococcal B disease. Any child born after the 1st of October will have been offered the vaccine at 2,4 & 12 months of age. Presently there is no MenB catch-up programme for children born prior to 1st October 2016 but the vaccine is available on a private basis and we can order this vaccine for your child/children. Please email us if you would like to have your child/chidren vaccinated against this disease:
