The sphenoid bone (in yellow), seen from above and below, is a keystone bone in our bodies, and is very important in Craniosacral Therapy β¨
π Sometimes known as the butterfly bone, due to its shape, it forms part of the bottom of our skull, and connects the bones of the face with the cranium.
A part of the sphenoid called the sella turcica, is where the pituitary gland is situated. Known as the master gland, the pituitary is one of the most important in the endocrine system, which produces the hormones in our bodies, controlling everything from breathing, heart rate, digestion, and even how we feel! πΏ
πAs it is directly connected to the Dura, the membrane covering the brain and spine, and by the connective fascial tissue to the rest of the body, releasing restrictions in the sphenoid can have profound effects throughout.
