Frozen Shoulder;

Acupuncture and Chinese Cupping are a very beneficial treatment for pain relief caused by Adhesive Capsulitis, otherwise known as Frozen shoulder. Adhesive Capsulitis is characterized by inflammation and adhesions that restrict movement and cause pain of the shoulder and even the arm. It is common for suffers of frozen shoulder to say the pain gets worse at night, they often have difficulty lying on the affected side and the pain may even wake you from your sleep.

Symptoms may include restriction of movement, pain in the shoulder, pain or shooting sensations that radiate either into the neck or down the arm and may cause numbness or tingling in the hands.

Acupuncture & Cupping are extremely effective for treating Frozen Shoulder. At Cork Acupuncture we often use other therapies such as Physical Therapy, Sports Massage, acupressure or electro-acupuncture when necessary. Many clients notice an improvement after the first treatment and the benefits of subsequent treatments are accumulative.

A course of 6 -12 treatments would normally be required for lasting pain relief.

▫️Sports Injuries ▫️

Acupuncture and Physical Therapy can reduce pain and benefit sports injuries by stimulating the brain and spinal cord to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals (including endorphins), melatonin (which promotes sleep) and serotonin (to promote well-being), to name but a few.

Acupuncture is increasingly used by top sports players and athletes to treat sports injuries and other musculo-skeletal problems. It can be used both on its own or in conjunction with other therapies such as Chinese Cupping and Sports Massage. In Europe professional sports teams are also offering acupuncture to their players both to treat many different types of sports injuries and to keep them performing at their peak.

Ankle sprains
Back strain
Calf strain/tears

Knee pain tendon/ligament

▫️FAQ▫️

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Acupuncture is a “Process” and not a “Procedure”. It works over a series of treatments. You can never have acupuncture treatments too close together, but you can have them too far apart. It works cumulatively, each treatment building on the previous, and we want to continue building on your progress.

If we treat you today but your symptoms return before your next appointment, then we went too far between appointments, we’re back at square one! If you continue like this you will be stuck in a “See Saw” position of your symptoms improving, then getting worse, then improving, and getting worse.

We don’t want this for you, we want your symptoms to slowly improve, and improve, and improve.

In order to accomplish this, I’ll need to see you twice a week for the first 1-2 weeks.

After that as long as your symptoms are improving and staying at that level of improvement between appointments, then we’ll back off to once per week.

As long as your symptoms continue to stay stable between appointments we’ll keep treating you once per week, but if they start to creep back in during that week then I want you to contact me and we’ll get you back in again ASAP for an appointment so we don’t lose ground on all of your progress.

Once your symptoms are basically gone, then we’ll go into Tune Up Mode where I’ll see you every 2-3 weeks for a period and thereafter at least once per month and so on for a tune up treatment.

▫️Acupuncture and IVF▫️

IVF success rates for live births are...*
29% for women under 35
23% for women aged 35 to 37
15% for women aged 38 to 39
9% for women aged 40 to 42
3% for women aged 43 to 44
2% for women aged over 44

Recent research shows that getting acupuncture while undergoing IVF increases pregnancy rates by 10% This is a significant increase when you consider that the IVF success rates are agonisingly low.

Many IVF clinics now offer acupuncture as an added complimentary therapy. To get the most benefit from Acupuncture you should ideally begin 3 months before and continue with regular weekly treatments in the run-up to starting IVF treatment and throughout. This is not always possible so at the very least do try and have treatment prior to egg retrieval, and before and after embryo implantation.

Research shows that having Acupuncture improves pregnancy rates after IVF failure by 35% .

A German research showed that having Acupuncture before and after transfer increases success by 65%.

IVF doctors commonly recommend acupuncture to increase the chances of an IVF cycle succeeding, and recent studies have demonstrated a higher percentage of successful pregnancies when acupuncture is used in conjunction with any ART procedure.

During the course of your IVF cycle we use acupuncture to assist the IVF process. This involves:

•Promoting follicle development in the early part of the cycle
•Promoting follicle maturation for egg collection towards the middle of the cycle
•Helping the ovaries recover from egg collection
•Preparing the uterus for embryo transfer
•Supporting the uterus after implantation
•We also assist with stress, anxiety and fatigue caused by the interruption to your usual lifestyle and the emotional and physical demands of the IVF process.
