Running has become a popular form of physical activity. Why? it's inexpensive, time efficient, available to do 24/7 and enjoyable (apparently). Running like any other form of physical activity comes with some common injuries e.g knee pain, shin pain, muscular pain, achilles tendon pain, low back pain etc. These types of injuries tend to pop up just as we are getting into our groove but is it just bad timing or are we doing something wrong?
Well the answer is maybe both or neither. To understand any injury we have to delve into your background- your previous injuries, training schedule, work/life balance etc. Within this we will usually find the answers of why you have started to experience pain.
There are some risk factors of running related injuries and these can be different from men to women and adolescents to adults. The biggest risk factor across the board for runners is a history of previous injury. If you have had a previous injury and are experiencing pain but would like to continue running, seeking advice on managing the injury would be the best step. The solution might be simple and you might be back attacking your training plan in no time, it may also take some time to get back into the groove but with guidance this will happen.
As the evenings get longer and the weather improves🤞🏻 let's keep moving. If you are struggling with a running related injury get in touch and we can keep you on track with your running goals 🏃🏻♀️
