โฃ
Now both inner peace and outer peace is actually what life is all about and what everything is all about I believe. And, as a practitioner of Vajrayana Buddhism, what Buddha Dharma is all about for sure and what Vajrayana teaching of Buddha is for sure. Absolutely, that is for both outer peace and inner peace, and I will add onto that by saying it is more like achieving inner peace first, and that way then outer peace. As you are pursuing the inner peace, then outer peace is also at the same time evolved, so that way I have a simple example for it. โฃ
โฃ
You might say, "I am one of the 7.8 billion human beings on this earth and what difference can I make whether I have achieved some sense of contentment, some sense of confidence? How can this affect?" I give you an example, very simple. It can be a huge, huge pool of water, let's say a lake, a sizeable lake, and you are a drop of blue colour or green colour or red colourโ€”any colourโ€”and but those colours are nice, you know, purple, they're nice colour. So you can be any of those colours, but a drop. Maybe make a little bit more - a glass of colour - and when you pour it in, then that entire pool or the lake or the pond becomes a little bit green, a little bit blue, a little bit purple, a little bit yellow, a little bit red for sure. If not, then if you pour a billion cups, glass of colour, it will not make any difference. โฃ
โฃ
So if one doesn't make the difference, a billion doesn't make difference; so one is a billionth of one. One is making a difference, therefore a billion will make a difference but the magnitude of the effect depends on how deep your inner peace is. For example, great Arhats like Ananda, like Rahul, like all of these thousands and thousands of Arhat disciples of Buddha Shakyamuni. They are affected by the enlightenment of Buddha Shakyamuni, which in Theravada practice described as Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha. And so that way all of these great Arhats are the effect of the Buddha Shakyamuni and, in Theravada teaching the highest effect. โฃ
โฃ
As a result of their effect see, right now, all of us from all parts of the world. Nine languages. Learning the teaching of Buddha even for a short while. That's what we are doing, and all of you doing full time. You are part and parcel of the Dharma centre, Dharma community over there. So that way, you know, its effect is very obvious. So that way, individual's effect for entire humanity is very much evident. โฃ

From Palpung Dharma Chakra. ๐Ÿ™

Ordinary individuals like you and me, filled with obscurations, are constantly carried away by disturbing emotions such as desire and attachment, as well as anger, aversion, pride, jealousy, miserliness, and so on. We are under the influence of disturbing thoughts and emotions. As a result, everything we do, and the way we behave, is always tinged with grasping, desire, and attachment.

Not only do disturbing emotions and negative thoughts motivate our actions, but we can also observe within ourselves that even activities related to the Dharma, though motivated by virtuous thoughts, are imbued with all kinds of expectations for positive results and fears or apprehensions of negative outcomes. We experience desire and attachmentโ€”in other words, limitationsโ€”even in our altruistic actions and activities. This is a fact, and it is normal for beginners.

There are also individuals who behave in a confused and disorderly way, their minds disturbed by emotions, yet who outwardly present themselves as calm and controlled, like an arhat.

In short, as long as one has not cut through attachment arising from dualistic grasping at purity and impurity, and does not have the capacity to restore life to what one has killed, the practice of a view at such a level, a realization of such depthโ€”especially when it is perceived as harmful by othersโ€”can never become a profound ta***ic practice consisting in adopting a conduct that makes use of whatever arises.

On the contrary, it will become a mistaken and unhealthy conduct. It is therefore very important to practice in accordance with your own level.

When you have compassion, a bodhisattvaโ€™s compassion for all sentient beings, why you have bodhicitta for all sentient beings is because of your joy, not because of your sorrow. When you see that all sentient beings are suffering, you see that they donโ€™t have to suffer, they can get out of that suffering, but not from somewhere else, the means of getting out of suffering is in them. Buddha-nature is in them, primordial wisdom is in them. When you see that then you get the natural aspiration, โ€œMay I reach liberation so that I can liberate all mother sentient beings who are suffering absolutely unnecessarily.โ€ You have aspiration, confidence and a destination; it is more than just hope. So that is joy, it is not sorrow. It is not like, โ€œThese poor sentient beings are suffering. I have to do something for them.โ€ It is, โ€œThese future Buddhas are unnecessarily suffering. They are having a nightmare. Their essence is perfect so they have all the means in them to overcome this suffering. So may I be the aspiration and guide for them. May I have that honor to be the guide and example and giver of that great realization for them, to make them realize who they are,โ€ thatโ€™s all. You are not bringing something from somewhere and giving it to them, or cutting something from yourself and sewing it on to them. It is just making them realize who they are. That is what bodhicitta is. And it is joy, confidence, and an honor. It is not suffering, it is not pain and it is not misery.โฃ

The Difficulty of Recognizing the Nature of Mind

The nature of mind has to be recognized by the nature of mind. It is not โ€˜youโ€™ recognizing your nature of mind; it is your nature of mind recognizes your nature of mind. It is so easy therefore it is so difficult. It is there all the time. Our mind recognizes our nature of mind all the time. We are never separate. But somehow, as it is said in the Mahamudra prayer, โ€œself awareness, under the power of ignorance, is confused into a โ€˜self'โ€. So because of ignorance, the nature of mind that we recognize every moment, every moment we mistake it as โ€˜Iโ€™.

โฃ
The first thing we all have to know is who we are. And when we are happy about ourselves, I tell you, when you know who you are according to the teaching of Dharmakirti and Atisha Dipankaraโ€”based on the teaching of Lord Buddha, of course. Their teaching introduces you to yourself. And when you know that, it's impossible not to feel good about yourself. You have to feel good about yourself. โฃ
โฃ
What they tell us is: I am good, you are good, everybody is good naturally. Naturally. So the ultimate nature of you, I, and everybody is perfect. There is no ultimate badness in anybody. Of course, there are bad people. Sometimes we also act very bad and angry, jealous, greedy, tricky, all of this. But it is not ultimate. It is a mistake, it is relative, it is impermanent. Our perfectness will never be corrupted by anything, but our imperfection cannot last long. So, this negative side of us is the outcome of so many circumstances: yourself, other people, surroundings, so many things, and also basically misunderstanding. We don't understand what is "me," we don't understand what are all these people, we don't understand what is our world. We don't understand. Then we misunderstand, we have misperceptions, then we become ignorant. And when we become ignorant, we can be desperate, we can be restless, we can be aggressive, or when it goes the other way around, we will be totally, totally depressed. And that is not our nature.โฃ
โฃ
The sky is always clean and clear. Sometimes there is a storm, sometimes there is a cloud, but it is never ultimately clouded. It is temporarily clouded, and ultimately, at that whole time, primordial clearness and cleanness is the nature of the sky. In the same way, our mind is perfect at all times.โฃ

The path will go on until enlightenment. Whether it takes ten lifetimes or a million, the path goes all the way from the beginning of the practice until final enlightenment, the fruition. Until then, regardless of which level of ordinary being or bodhisattva you are, or what level of realization you reach, until full enlightenment, every single moment is the path. Although the different phases of development and realization might be described as levels of fruition, in terms of the Mahamudra definition of the ground, the path, and fruition, fruition refers only to the final fruition, Buddhahood. The interim levels of realization, development, and fruition may be considered the path. โฃ
โฃ
The path is the answer of how to overcome relative obstacles. Our path is alive, it is not dead. It is not just history. It is an experience, a practice, an instruction - our path is alive. We certainly should be grateful for it. But it is also not the only path. If we think this path is the only path, we do not understand our path deeply enough. Doing anything perfectly, doing anything good is the path. โฃ
