Did you know? 💊✨

At Cobh Pharmacy we’re always looking out for the small details that can make a big difference to your health.

Many effervescent (fizzy) or dissolvable medicines and vitamin supplements contain sodium. While they can be convenient and easy to take, the added sodium is something to be mindful of — especially if you have:

• High blood pressure
• Heart disease
• Heart failure
• Kidney problems
• Or if you’ve been advised to follow a low-salt diet

Sodium can cause the body to retain fluid. This fluid retention may increase blood pressure and can put extra strain on the heart, potentially worsening existing heart conditions.

If you regularly take soluble painkillers, cold & flu remedies, or vitamin supplements, it’s worth checking the label — you might be surprised at how much sodium they contain.

The good news? In many cases, there are lower-sodium or non-effervescent alternatives available.

If you’re unsure about your medication or supplements, call in and have a chat with our team — we’re happy to help you choose the safest option for you. Your heart will thank you. ❤️

💊 Emergency Contraception – Important Information 💊

At Cobh Pharmacy, we believe women deserve clear, accurate information to help them make informed decisions.

The primary way morning after pills (emergency contraception) work is by delaying or inhibiting ovulation (the release of an egg).

👉 Ovulation occurs on average around day 14 of a typical 28-day menstrual cycle (though this can vary a lot from person to person).
This means that if ovulation has already happened, the morning after pill may not be effective.

Because cycles aren’t always regular and it’s not easy to know exactly when ovulation occurs, choosing the right option can be confusing.

💬 If you’re unsure, ask your pharmacist.
Our team offers confidential, non-judgemental advice and can help you decide what option is most suitable for you.

📣 Medication Shortages 📣

At present, there are an awful lot of medicines that are currently in short supply with the wholesalers, and this is affecting pharmacies across Ireland. These shortages can make it harder for us to get certain products quickly — and we know it can be frustrating when your regular prescription isn’t immediately available.

According to the latest information on the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) medicines shortages list, there are currently well over 180 medicines in short supply in Ireland — and more may be added as the situation changes.

💊 Please rest assured:
Our pharmacists and their team are working tirelessly every day to manage these shortages. This includes:
✅ contacting wholesalers and manufacturers for updated supply information
✅ sourcing alternative strengths/brands where clinically appropriate
✅ contacting prescribers to identify suitable substitutions.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding — we know that delayed or unavailable medicines can be stressful, and we’re here to support you in every way we can.

If you have any concerns about your medicines, don’t hesitate to call or visit us — we’re here to help! 🧑‍⚕️💬
