🧊 Frozen Shoulder? Let's Break It Down!

Frozen shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) is a painful condition where the shoulder joint becomes stiff, inflamed, and restricted, making movement difficult. It typically develops in three stages:

1️⃣ Freezing Stage – Pain increases, and movement starts to become limited.
2️⃣ Frozen Stage – Stiffness is at its worst, but pain may begin to decrease.
3️⃣ Thawing Stage – Mobility gradually returns as the inflammation settles.

🔎 Cork Care Clinics Approach

We focus on restoring mobility and reducing pain by:
✔️ Gentle joint mobilization to improve movement
✔️ Soft tissue techniques to release muscular tension
✔️ Lymphatic drainage to reduce inflammation
✔️ Neuromuscular techniques to improve coordination
✔️ Exercise prescription for long-term recovery

✨ Why Cork Care Clinic?

We treat the whole body, not just the shoulder! By addressing posture, spinal alignment, and muscle imbalances, we help prevent recurrence and promote natural healing.

❗Chest Pain That’s NOT a Heart Attack? It Might Be Costochondritis❗

Ever felt a sharp or aching pain in your chest, especially when moving or taking a deep breath? It could be costochondritis—inflammation of the cartilage connecting your ribs to your sternum.

⚡ Symptoms:
✔️ Chest pain (worse with movement or deep breaths)
✔️ Tenderness when pressing on the ribs
✔️ No swelling (unlike Tietze syndrome)

🚨 Not a heart attack! But always rule it out if unsure.

💡 What Causes It?

🔹 Strain from exercise or heavy lifting
🔹 Repetitive movements or poor posture
🔹 Coughing fits or respiratory infections

🩹 How to Relieve It?

✅ Rest & avoid painful movements
✅ Anti-inflammatory meds (ibuprofen, naproxen)
✅ Heat or ice therapy
✅ Gentle stretching

Ice vs. Heat Therapy: When to Use What?

🧊 ICE THERAPY (Cold Treatment)

✅ Best for acute injuries, swelling, inflammation, and pain relief
✅ Use for: Sprains, strains, bruises, post-surgery, and tendonitis
✅ How it works: Reduces blood flow, numbs pain, and decreases swelling
✅ How to apply:

Use an ice pack or frozen gel pack wrapped in a cloth

Apply for 15-20 minutes every 2-3 hours

Avoid direct contact with the skin to prevent frostbite

🔥 HEAT THERAPY (Warm Treatment)

✅ Best for: Chronic pain, muscle stiffness, and relaxation
✅ Use for: Sore muscles, arthritis, tension, and stiffness
✅ How it works: Increases blood flow, relaxes muscles, and promotes healing
✅ How to apply:

Use a heating pad, warm towel, or heat pack

Apply for 15-20 minutes

Avoid excessive heat to prevent burns

🚨 Quick Tips

❌ Never use heat on a fresh injury—it can increase swelling
❌ Never use ice before physical activity—it can reduce flexibility
✅ When in doubt, start with ice for injuries and heat for stiffness!

🦾 Brachial Plexus Injury
Understanding Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

📌 What is the Brachial Plexus?
The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that control movement and sensation in the shoulder, arm, and hand. It originates from spinal nerves C5-T1.

⚠️ Causes of Injury:
• Birth Trauma: Shoulder dystocia during delivery
• Sports Injuries: Contact sports (football, wrestling)
• Motor Vehicle Accidents: Sudden impact or stretching of the arm
• Falls & Workplace Accidents

🩺 Types of Brachial Plexus Injuries:
• Neuropraxia (Stretch Injury): Nerve remains intact but is damaged due to overstretching.
• Rupture: The nerve is torn but not at the spinal cord level.
• Avulsion: The nerve is completely torn from the spinal cord.
• Neuroma: Scar tissue forms around the injured nerve, disrupting signals.

🛑 Symptoms to Look For:
• Weakness or paralysis in the arm or hand
• Loss of sensation (numbness, tingling)
• Burning or severe pain in the affected limb
• Reduced grip strength or inability to move fingers

💉 Treatment Options:
✅ Physical Therapy – Exercises to regain strength and flexibility
✅ Medications – Pain management with NSAIDs or neuropathic pain meds
✅ Nerve Grafts & Transfers – Surgical repair for severe cases
✅ Tendon Transfers – Restoring function through muscle adaptation
✅ Occupational Therapy – Improving daily function and mobility

📢 Prevention Tips:
✔️ Practice proper sports techniques
✔️ Use protective gear in high-risk activities
✔️ Ensure safe childbirth techniques for at-risk deliveries
✔️ Seek medical attention early for any arm weakness or numbness
