Inspiring as always, thank you Rebekah!
A decade ago presented the research on high intensity progressive resistance training for post menopausal women at an International Osteoporosis Foundation conference. For those with low bone mass and without fracture history, the research increasingly points to the importance of moderate to high intensity resistance training, with weights specifically, as a means of preventing bone loss and even increasing bone mass.
We hear from those of you who feel intimidated by lifting weights, and especially the idea of heavy lifting. And if you’re like many of our followers with other conditions and injuries, it’s understandable if you also have concerns. The research frequently excluded folks like you in trials.
The key is to safely and slowly add additional load and get the guidance you need for your own body. Rebekah began on this journey when she was diagnosed with osteoporosis, over 20 years ago! She built her way to heavier loads over time - it’s why it’s called PROGRESSIVE overload. Like many of you, she has a number of challenges in her body that did and still can provide setbacks. Which is why it’s about working within your own parameters, and what YOUR body can tolerate. You are your own control in this scientific experiment of changing your bones and your body. Don’t compare yourself to others.
But DO revisit your beliefs and expectations that might hold you back from your strength potential. In this photo our Australia faculty Lisa Jackson is lifting a weight that she worked up to and technique she practiced.
The Buff Bones method is about getting you to these points of greater threshold! We focus initially on organizing your body and building a solid foundation, developing confidence in lifting your own body weight and then adding external weights, serving you in your daily activities and also in the gym. It’s a process as you cultivate strength and incrementally increase your load tolerance.
You may not yet know what’s possible – have faith in your body and its possibilities. You can and will get stronger with consistency and commitment.
