Words to avoid with someone facing depression:
• 'It’s just in your mind'
• 'Why don’t you snap out of it?'
• 'Life’s tough for everyone'
• 'Some have it harder than you'
• 'Maybe a quick walk will fix it'
• 'You seem fine to me'
• 'We all feel down sometimes'

Here are some things people with anxiety wish you knew:

- We can’t control it.
- Telling me to “relax” isn’t helpful.
- It’s crippling.
- Sometimes (most of the time) we feel anxious for no reason at all.
- We’re trying our best.
- We appreciate the small things you do for us, like ordering our food.

Mental health conversations are needed at every age and something we need to promote more in secondary schools, colleges & work places.

We need to be able to feel comfortable talking about our struggles and not feel ashamed.

Depression can look like:
•isolating oneself
•laying in bed all day
•being visibly low/sad
•struggling to maintain hygiene/appearance

& ALSO look like:
•overcompensating with humour
•the ‘happy’ friend
•being social
•being active/high-functioning

Depression has no face.
