& ALSO look like:
•overcompensating with humour
•the ‘happy’ friend
•being social
•being active/high-functioning

High-functioning anxiety often looks like responsibility, reliability, and strength.. but feels like constant pressure and never being able to switch off.

Here are some things people with anxiety wish you knew:

- We can’t control it.
- Telling us to “relax” isn’t helpful.
- It’s crippling.
- Sometimes (most of the time) we feel anxious for no apparent reason.
- We’re doing our best.
- We appreciate the small things like ordering our food.

If a person is constantly supporting others, they may feel there’s no space for their own sadness, fear, or confusion. Over time, they:

Downplay their feelings

Avoid expressing vulnerability

Tell themselves, “This isn’t about me”

Emotions that aren’t processed don’t disappear—they get buried. Eventually, the person may struggle to even identify what they’re feeling.

They stop asking what do I need?” and start asking, “What do they need from me?

• Moving slow due to low energy and fatigue
