Preparations are well under way for my Christmas Aromatherapy Workshop in Clonakilty.
We'll be making some natural, aromatherapy products which you can gift to family and friends, or keep for yourself!
We'll also be having a cuppa and something nice to go with it!

'Therapeutic Grade' essential oils is a phrase made up by the marketing departments of essential oil companies. ALL essential oils are therapeutic. There are however ways to know if an essential oil is real. First some brands are ethical and only sell what they say on the bottle I.e. the oils aren't adulterated. Think McSeans, Tisserand and . If the oil has the Latin name on the bottle you can be pretty sure it's real. Also if all essential oils are the same price then they're definitely not real. The citrus oils for example are cheaper as the oil is easily obtained from the fruit, whereas oils like Rose, Jasmine or Neroli take a lot of plant material to obtain a small amount of oil. So, these oils are costly. Just a few ways to help you know that you're getting what it says on the bottle!!

Delighted to give a mini Aromatherapy workshop at the Irish Wheelchair Association on Monday morning. We chatted about essential oil safety, made a hand cream and learned a short hand massage.
Everyone was so relaxed heading into the dining room for lunch.
Looking forward to being back early 2026 for a series of workshops for this lovely group.

Some of my 'go to' books for natural cleaning products . There's really no need for us to use nasty chemical products to ensure our homes, clothes and ourselves are clean. And, so many products can be made with what we already have in our cupboards. As well as being better for the environment and cheaper, they also reduce waste and recycling.

Natural Cleaning with Aromatherapy and Plants was the subject of today's workshop in Cork City and I brought this ivy laundry liquid with me. So easy to make and very effective with none of the nasties. Great to have such a big group interested in chemical free cleaning.

When is an 'essential 'oil not an essential oil.
As you can see it's when the bottle is full of chemicals!! It's clear from these pictures, that I took in a shop in Cork city at the weekend that they do not contain essential oils. You may have champagne tastes but obviously there is no such thing as champagne essential oil, or cashmere essential oil. It's such a shame to see this - a chemical concoction being marketed as a natural substance.
So be aware and wary of what you are buying and please don't be conned by false advertising.

That time of year when bugs are doing the rounds. This warming drink is great at the first sign of a sniffle!

1 tsp cloves
1 cinnamon stick broken
Thumb sized piece of ginger chopped
Add to half litre of water and bring to boiling point. Simmer very gently for 15 mins, with the lid on. Turn off and let infuse for an hour. Reheat. Add juice of half a lemon and local honey or maple syrup to a cup and top with spicy drink. Sip and enjoy!
