Monkstown Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic is a chartered physiotherapy practice located in Monkstown village, Dublin. The practice was established in 2004 and together the physiotherapists have over 35 years clinical experience. Our aim at the clinic is to assess your injury or condition, provide a diagnosis and help you to return to full functional capacity including returning to work duties and/or sports. We also offer a home visit service for patients who are unable to travel to the clinic and for patients requiring a home assessment for safety and/or mobility issues. In addition to this we have recognised qualifications for the delivery of manual handling instruction and can do on-site ergonomic and VDU assessments in your place of work as well as group instruction in safer manual handling and ergonomics in line with current national legal requirements.

Radicular Pain or Radiculopathy? Not the same thing!
Both sound similar, but the difference changes your assessment and rehab approach completely.

🧠 Understand the distinction:
• Radicular Pain = Symptom
• Radiculopathy = Clinical Syndrome

Know it. Spot it. Treat it right.

🤗 Extra hugs available today for National Hugging Day, as if I needed a reason! 🤗

💃🏼 At PostureFitting, part of our conversations with women & girls includes the concepts of size & fit when it comes to breast support.

👙Bra sizing, let's be honest here, is a minefield of inconsistency. The discomfort that makes you want to take your bra off asap. This is because manufacturers use differing fabrics, elastics, & even the bra style itself impact how the bra fits.

💃🏿Once you learn how your bra should fit, you realise that size doesn't matter. Fit matters.

👀 The best size is the one that fits. That's worth repeating.
The best size is the one that fits 👊🏼....which goes for hugs as well, I guess!!

🤗 Sending hugs of gratitude today to, & for, my amazing PosureFitting Partners, for all they do to support women & girls:

Muscle activity during running 🏃🏽‍♀️
The quads, calf and glutes are important shock absorbers and the hamstrings work hardest during the swing phase.

Lateral Hip Pain is often aggravated by activities involving hip adduction. Modifying or reducing these can help symptoms.

Just remember that long term avoidance is not the answer! Aim to adapt activity rather than avoid and plan a graded return when ready.

Don't blame the wire - this is not the wire's fault!! 🤨

With the "always in support" ethos that we have at PostureFitting, being critical of a woman's choices is not something I do lightly. However, as our goal is to empower women to have & enact informed choice about breast support, I simply cannot ignore this image without hopefully using it to enlighten others.

Women tell us all the time that they hate wired bras & don't wear them because they are uncomfortable. This image is a somewhat extreme (and almost unfathomable 😳) example of how ill-fitting wire can be, not just uncomfortable, but downright painful!! 👀

But, blaming the wire in these situations is both wrong and, frankly, missing the point!!

The wire in a wired bra provides both shape and support to the breasts, but in so doing should lie ONLY on the rib cage (ie the ribs and the sternum, aka the breast bone), & NOT, indeed NEVER, on soft, sensitive breast tissue. It's bad enough if this image is showing a "wardrobe malfunction", because no wire should ever be under a level of pressure that causes it to break through fabric like this. But if that was the case, wouldn't you just pull the wires out rather than be stabbed, not just by one, but by both wires!

If this was the desired look, I for one am at a total loss as to why any stylist would subject a woman to such pain, but, more importantly, why any woman would agree to it!! Unless it was simply a way to beget conversations about the nastiness of wires .... 🤔... in which case it has succeeded based on the responses I have seen thus far!

In a PostureFitting, we teach you how to optimally support your breast weight both internally and externally, which includes learning about how a bra should fit. When a bra fits well, you don't even know you are wearing it.

We educate, enlighten & empower women & girls to be able to make informed choices about their breast support. We provide them with the confidence to say no if (as sadly often happens 🤨) they are being sold a product, or dressed in an item, that does not serve them as it should.

Pity Beyonce hadn't a PostureFitting prior to this event, to give her that ability to advocate better for her body! Women (& girls) don't know what they don't know until that situation is rectified.

To find out more about having a PostureFitting, & learning more than you ever thought possible, see www.posturefittingphysio.com or speak with a PostureFitting Partner, listed below.

And do pls contact us if you are a therapist & interested in offering PostureFitting at your place of work - we need you to spread our message & our mantra of "always in support" 💃🏿👙👀💃🏼
