Why do we focus so heavily on having local carers, based in the same area as the clients they care for?

For us it's common sense, but some of the biggest benefits we see include:

Consistency; being able to have the same carer on a regular basis means the client and family members can relax and trust quicker. New faces all the time slows this process down.

Less No-Shows; simply by being in the local area, travel becomes easier for carers and in turn no-shows become less of an issue.

Local Understanding; stormy weather, local traffic issues, changes on the high street. All of these things can impact, and having local understanding makes a huge difference.

Less Travel Fatigue; having a carer travel long distances before work even starts can take its toll. Shorter travel times/distances means better, more intuitive care.

The difference filters through every single day.

45% of older people assessed by ALONE Ireland in 2025 experienced loneliness.

2% hadn't been out socially in over a year.

These aren't just numbers. It's been proven time and again the harm loneliness can have; physically, emotionally and mentally.

Great care can help in so many ways.

The recent 2025 End of Year ALONE Ireland report highlights some of the complex needs and situations our older people are facing.

From mobility to health and beyond, there's a range of issues facing some of our most vulnerable family and friends.

Our aim at The Great Care Co-op is to be part of the solution, bringing better home care to the forefront in Ireland.
