TRAINING ROTATION!?
Some clips of a circuit from earlier in the week where the goal was to work on, and integrate different rotations that could relate to the my gait cycle and throwing mechanics. ✊
These days it's common place to see people talking about the importance of training rotations, unfortunately like everything related to the body, this is a more complex equation than your being led to believe. 😳
Rotations and spirals in the limbs drive rotations and spirals in the trunk and vice versa. If you're not accounting for this when you train "rotation" then a big piece of the puzzle is missing. 😬
I have lots of work to do to make sure I'm sequencing all of these rotations correctly in order to move without compensations. Thankfully is accounting for more variables than anything else can even come close to 🙏.
Be prepared for the long haul if you want to jump in the ring with FP! Like learning an instrument or a language, competency takes time.

Amazing progress showcased here by FP practitioner David and his client! 😯👏 Read below.

11 months running mechanics progress from my client Rudi with cerebral palsy. During this period Rudi has been training only and no other form of training has been applied.
Rudi’s testimonial: “Shortly before I started FP, I had been through some health complications, such as spontaneous pneumothorax, femoral head fracture and retinal tear on my right eye, because of which I had to undergo a surgery. After the last one, I was told by the doctors that I should never load my body physically anymore. However, I knew how important it was for my body to move, in order to maintain its tension and not to become atrophied. I refused to stay stuck at home doing nothing, so I gave a try to FP which I heard about from my friend. Since I started doing FP, my physical condition has improved drammatically. I can feel the difference while doing basic daily activities, but mainly by movements like running. I had been avoiding running all my life because it made me feel uncomfortable. My movement coordination and overall balance have improved greatly and my running mechanics is hardly comparable to my previous running attempts. With all of these changes coming, it started to become clear that I’m on the right track. FP opened up new possibilies for me, showing me that it is only us who set the limits to our bodies and to ourselves. In order to progress, the only one who we have to deal with, is ourselves, which is for many people the most difficult thing to do.”

Rudi is one of my hardest working clients, who has never missed a single session since we began training. It took us 7 months of training FP corrective and dynamic exercises before Rudi was able to run without holding to any support. After that point, we were able to work on building gait mechanics. First video was recorded on 29 April 2019. Second video was recorded on 26 March 2020

Up early this Christmas Eve! The lab is on the road again. Been doing some surfing here in Morocco 🇲🇦(if you call barely standing on a canal boat sized board surfing 🤣). .
It’s reminding me of some of my old sneaky asymmetries and dysfunctions, but while the rest of the surfers are warming up doing yoga on the beach 😬 I’m blasting out some reps on the balcony. No gym needed! 🤞
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. Functional Patterns is the standard. 🙌 I’ve surfed in years gone by but a nagging shoulder always held me back. Not this time 💪 .
teaching people how to improve their health and functionality in a way that translates to every day real life scenarios. .
Happy Christmas to everyone at home and abroad! 🙏 .

LATERAL MOVEMENTS
Using the medicine ball to work on some lateral movement mechanics today 👌
Unfortunately, just slopping out mindless reps of “agility” plyometric style exercises without understanding the mechanics behind the movements themselves won’t give you the results you look for 🧐
I have a long way to go before I become an efficient mover, but with we study the blueprint behind human movement in more detail than anyone has before. 🙌
Less concerned about movement for movement sake, and more concerned about the quality of movement and breaking it down mechanically.
If you want to improve your movement in real life terms, this is the only way. Otherwise just keep reinforcing bad patterns and have a bigger hill to climb when you wake up.

HUMAN FOUNDATIONS PRAGUE! .

Anybody looking to start their education with Functional Patterns look no further. I was lucky enough to have introduce me to this amazing system in Romania over 2 years ago, and have since had the pleasure of seeing him teach this course twice more in Dublin and Brussels. 🙌 .

He is a master at his trade and this course is not one to be missed. Prague is a short stop for anyone in Europe, and this man has only announced 2 courses so far next year. DON’T MISS OUT! .

Monday night Mace bell! Trying hard to keep the rib cage and pelvis connected 🤞The mace is another great tool to help groove the natural rhythms our bodies possess due to walking, running and throwing. Need to figure out how to get less tension in my face 😂

Our boy pain free, leaned up and looking as smooth as butter after 1 and a half years of Functional Patterns!! 🙌

Before and After Posterior Gait upgrades
Before is a year and a half ago before HBS 1: Suffered lumbar pain, knee pain and shoulder pain every time I ran on the treadmill. I also weighed 201lbs and was constantly suffering weight issues and trained 6 x a week never getting muscle gains or lost any weight.
After 11/24/2019 After HBS 2: I no longer feel any pain during my gait cycle and I now weigh 173lbs and my hormones feel balanced finally allowing me to put on muscle in a functional aspect only by applying .
To me is undeniable and the results will continue to showcase that

Trying to connect the arms to the rest of the body in a dynamic fashion earlier on today!💪 Using the club bell as its weight distribution can facilitate and help groove the natural movements our arms must go through during the gait cycle. 🏃🏻 Context is key 🔑. Having arms that are connected to nothing wont help you much when you try to move around in 3 dimensions. 🤷‍♂️ A lot of work to do but happy to be on the road to functionality 🤞

Huge gains made with our colleagues over in !

from
Gains central station. Great work yet again by . Jose, you're a bad m f err. .Some gains here by Lucas using techniques . He had long term lumbar and neck pain due to playing soccer at a competitive level since his childhood. Before functionalpatterns he had tried for long time physical therapy (physiotherapy) and stretching tecnniques without results. He started fp eight months ago and now he is without pain.

Amazing work from the guys over in Madrid! 🙌

from
Mercedes is 66 years old, she played sports during her whole childhood from ballet, swimming to athletics.

At the age of 21 she started practicing yoga, 5 years later she started having sciatic pain. On one occasion whilst practicing a yoga pose during a session her lumbar got “locked”. Because of this she had to undergo surgery for a herniated disk.

Years later she started having strong knee pain, which increased in the last 8 years. She was diagnosed with chondromalacia pattellae grade 3 and 4 and meniscus tear. Her husband and her son are doctors, radiologist and cardiologist, and her step daughter is a physiotherapist.
During this last 8 years she has tried different treatments including: physiotherapy, osteopathy, anti inflamatories, and hyaluronic acid infiltrations. Some of these treatments gave her some short term relief but the pain would always came back with more intensity.
The last year has been her worst physically, to the point where she couldn’t walk up the stairs and she had difficulties walking with shooting pains in her knee. The intensity of the pain was so strong it woke her up during the night. She started and now 10 months later the pains have almost disappeared in practically all the movements, she doesn’t take any medication, she has recovered her mobility, walks daily and can get up and down stairs without any pain.

Working on improving my sequencing earlier on today with some pendulum squats! Getting some sneaky arm work in at the same time 🤪 Trying to connect my body on a deeper level, and facilitate movement in one area potentiating movement in another. 🤔 If the idea of sequencing the body this way sounds like double Dutch to you, you better check out ! 😂 To find out more about concepts like this that are RELEVANT to your health and movement, check out the website and find a practitioner near you 👍

Functional Patterns

Functional Patterns is a revolutionary way of looking at the human body. It restores balance through careful analysis of movements prioritized during our evolution. Walking, running and throwing shaped the way we move today. Many people struggle with injuries in today's world because those natural movements have become dysfunctional resulting in poor movement literacy. Functional Patterns treats injuries, get's to the root cause of pain and also increases performance.
