🪳Tick Season Alert 🦟

We've had a few cases of this lately!! So here's some info on what to look out for......

🍁Be aware of high-risk areas, which include:

• grassy and wooded areas
• sand dunes

🍁To reduce the risk of being bitten:

• cover your skin while walking outdoors and tuck your trousers into your socks

• use insect repellent on your clothes and skin - products containing DEET are best

• stick to paths whenever possible

• wear light-coloured clothing so ticks are easier to spot and brush off

🍁Symptoms of Lyme disease when bitten by an infected tick :

👩‍⚕️Rash can look like a bull's-eye on a dartboard and can appear within the first 4 weeks.

👩‍⚕️The skin is usually red and the edges may feel slightly raised.

👩‍⚕️In the early stages you may have flu like symptoms such as;

• feeling hot and shivery, or a high temperature
• headaches
• muscle and joint pain
• tiredness and loss of energy

🍁3 steps to removing a tick safely:

• Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible.

• Slowly pull upwards, taking care not to squeeze or crush the tick - dispose of it carefully.

• Clean the bite with antiseptic or soap and water.
