A huge congratulations to the 9 newly qualified swim teachers here at Magherabeg Leisure Centre Accredited Training Centre, Co. Donegal! 👏

We’re incredibly proud of their hard work, dedication, and professionalism throughout what was a jam-packed week of swim lessons, theory & safeguarding, completing portfolios, perfecting demonstrations and an in depth written exam.

A special thank you goes to the wonderful children from our swim school, whose energy and enthusiasm helped put our trainee swim teachers through their paces 👏

Our sincere thanks also to STA Swim Teacher Tutor, Esther and Assessor Alex for their expert guidance and support. They were both thoroughly impressed with the group’s commitment, attention to detail and the fun they brought to the learning process.

Quick thinking Heroes 🙌

Three Wexford boys have been hailed as heroes after their quick-thinking resulted in four lives being saved off Rosslare Harbour.

Shrugging off the tag of 'heroes', Kuba Dmowski (13), Sean Holden (12) and Tiernan Codd (13) explained that they were fishing when they noticed a group of swimmers 'not much older than us' heading into a dangerous area.

'We saw a group of people swimming out,' Kuba recalls. 'We shouted out to them not to swim out too far because there’s a really strong current there. Eventually, we saw that it had started to take them out to sea.'

The boys saw the danger signs and showed no hesitation in calling 112.

'One of them had started to drift out fairly far,' Tiernan said. 'We couldn’t actually see them in the end. We think maybe one of them was clinging onto the pier wall.'

The whole ordeal lasted some 45 minutes, with three of the four swimmers being taken to hospital for further treatment. The boys' actions have resulted in them being branded heroes locally in the past week. 'Every second counted with this rescue,' Rosslare RNLI Operations Manager Jamie Ryan said

Congratulations to our incredible 11 swim teachers on successfully completing their STA Award in Disability Swim Teaching! 🎉

Their dedication, extensive study, research presentations, exams, and practical experience working with each other as a team and then with children and adults with diverse special needs truly paid off as they all passed with flying colours! 🌟

The positive feedback from parents and families has been heartwarming, and everyone is excited to continue swim lessons. These lessons not only promote safety but also bring significant benefits to our adult and child participants alike.

A huge thank you to our team for their commitment and compassion in making a difference through inclusive swimming!
