“Mercy University Hospital believes that the care delivered to patients and their families at end-of-life, should be the same care that we would give to our own family and loved ones."

An article recently published in the EchoLive.ie highlighted the importance of compassionate, patient-centred care at the Mercy University Hospital throughout every stage of life.

The Mercy Foundation is proud to support the hospital’s work by funding vital equipment, services and supports that help enhance patient care - made possible through the generosity of our donors, volunteers and community.

“Cancer does not discriminate, with one in two of us being directly impacted over the course of our lives. It is an honour to take up this position and to have this opportunity to strengthen psychological support within cancer care, ensuring people have access to timely, skilled, and compassionate psychological help at some of the most challenging moments in their lives.” - Dr Jennifer Hayes.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Jennifer Hayes as Consulting Clinical Psychologist in the Mercy Foundation’s Cancer Care Centre on D**e Parade, Cork.

Embedded within the Department of Clinical Health Psychology at the Mercy University Hospital Cork, and as a member of the hospital’s multidisciplinary oncology teams, Dr Hayes will lead the development and delivery of the psycho-oncology service. She will support patients undergoing treatment for cancer, along with their families, through the significant psychological challenges they may face.

We were delighted to welcome fundraiser Máire Wixted to the Foundation office recently to thank her for her very generous donation of €4,000 from her event earlier his year. Máire is known for her horticultural skills and she kindly hosted an open garden event in June. 🌿 The weather might have been terrible at the time but it certainly didn't dampen the spirits of her visitors who enjoyed the beautiful surrounds and refreshments on offer!

Máire's funds are directed to support the work of Dr Clodagh Keohane. Pictured joining Máire are Dr Keohone, CNS Shona Spillane and Rachel Stevenson, CEO Mercy Hosptial Foundation.

Sincere thanks to Máire and all her supporters who made this donation possible.

"It's hard being in hospital on a good day, let alone Christmas."

Healthcare Assistant Elaine Jordan has worked in The Mercy for the past 6 years; she and her colleagues leave their own families on Christmas Day to care for patients who can’t be at home. Elaine says it’s a privilege to bring moments of comfort and cheer to patients when they need it most.

Every donation to the Mercy Foundation helps make these moments possible. Supporting patients, their families and the dedicated staff who are there for them, even on Christmas Day. If you can, please support patients in The Mercy at https://mercyfoundation.ie/donate/ - every gift makes a difference.

On behalf of everyone working this Christmas Day, Elaine wishes you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎅🎄

Do something wonderful in memory of a loved one this Christmas, remember them with a personalised porcelain Mercy Butterfly displayed on our beautiful Wall of Gratitude 🦋

Located in St. Therese’s Oncology Day Unit, the “Wall of Gratitude” recognises the compassionate care provided by all at Mercy University Hospital Cork. It’s a symbol of the care that has touched countless lives.

Crafted with love by local artist Siobhain Steele Ceramics, these delicate porcelain butterflies are not just ornaments; they are unique works of art, bearing the names of individuals and families we wish to remember.
