You know that feeling when you're in a room full of people, smiling and nodding, but inside you're screaming because nothing you're saying or doing feels like you?

Or when you catch yourself apologising for having an opinion, dimming your light so others feel comfortable, or saying "I'm fine" when you're anything but?

I think this quote touches on something we don't talk about enough—𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰, 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞.

It's not one dramatic moment; it's a thousand tiny betrayals.

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞'𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥—we create little fractures in our soul.

The thing is, we often don't even realise we're doing it.

We've been wearing masks for so long that we've forgotten who we really are looks like underneath.

But here's what I'm learning... 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞—𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦.

It's already there, waiting patiently beneath all the "shoulds" and "supposed tos."

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬. Messy, imperfect, totally human selves.

𝐎𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧, 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥—𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬, 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤, 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐲, 𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬.

We might believe that if we just worked harder, pushed more, or figured out the “right” solution, we could fix anything.

But life has a way of reminding us that 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥.

It’s in those moments—𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐤—𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐤𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐥’𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞.

𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐭.

This isn’t about giving up or resigning ourselves to circumstances.

𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫.

When the external world feels unmovable, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

𝐖𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨:

- 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭.

- 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

- 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡, 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡, 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞.

This process is not easy from my experience.

However, the truth is, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡.

One of the realizations I’ve had is this: 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮; 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬.

When we let go of trying to force outcomes and instead focus on healing, growing, and listening to our inner voice, something magical happens.

𝐖𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how much energy I’ve spent over the years trying to be someone I thought I should be—someone acceptable, likable, successful. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒆𝒙𝒉𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒊𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒊𝒕?

That constant inner dialogue, questioning if you’re saying the right thing, wearing the right mask, or fitting the expectations others have set for you.

For me, 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 that only grew heavier the more I ignored my true self.

The 𝒃𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒘𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒚 isn’t just from our busy schedules or external demands—it’s the internal tension of betraying ourselves.

𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒚 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒘𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆, 𝒘𝒆’𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒍.

That disconnection shows up in our bodies as stress, in our thoughts as anxiety, and in our hearts as a persistent ache for something more.

This stress isn’t permanent. 𝑾𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒈𝒐.

Life becomes lighter when we stop pretending and start embracing who we truly are.

Your vagus nerve is the key to reducing stress, improving relaxation, and supporting overall well-being.

Here are 𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 to stimulate and reset it:

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧, 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝, 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭?

𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬; 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬.

It’s about showing up as we are, 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐰𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞.

When we embrace authenticity, we’re saying to ourselves, “𝐈 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐈 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞.”

But 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞.

It means 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.

It means 𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦, 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞-𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.

It’s a practice—𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞.

I’ve forgotten how many times I’ve questioned my own voice, asking:

“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁?”

“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗜’𝗺 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲?”

It’s like a 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 inside of me, where 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸.

This quote is very true: 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆.

It doesn’t just stop you from writing, painting, or creating—it stops you from showing up as your 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.

When we doubt ourselves, we 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 before they even have a chance to grow.

We 𝘀𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸, make ourselves small, 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.

But here’s the thing:

𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 “𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲,” 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 “𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁” 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

Oftentimes, when we 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲, it can mean staying small.

And 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 means 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱.

𝗦𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲?

Here’s what I’ve learned (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗺 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴):

1️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆.
The act of starting and taking action—even with doubt and fear—creates 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺.

2️⃣ 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗸𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗳 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁.
𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁. It’s about learning and experimenting. It’s about being 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰.

3️⃣ 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲.

How many decisions in your life have been shaped by your desire to keep others happy? To avoid conflict? 𝗧𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲?

For so long, I thought saying “𝘆𝗲𝘀” 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳, 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. But over time, I realised that every “𝘆𝗲𝘀” 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆. I started to lose sight of who I was beneath the layers of guilt, obligation, and fear of letting others down.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: when we prioritise pleasing others over staying true to ourselves, we drift further away from our inner voice. That voice—the quiet, guiding one deep inside—is where our authenticity lives. And here’s the hard part: 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝗷𝗼𝘆, 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝘄𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲.

It’s not about becoming selfish or disregarding others’ feelings. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝘂𝘁, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀. It’s about realising that disappointing someone else doesn’t mean you’re unkind or unworthy—it means you’re human. And sometimes, 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.

𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲?

𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞.

For years, I felt like parts of my past were too heavy, too messy, or too painful to face. I thought that if I just ignored them long enough, they’d disappear. But instead, they quietly shaped my choices, my fears, and the way I saw myself.

It wasn’t until I stopped running and started owning my story that I realised this: 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Brené Brown’s quote reminds me that the parts of our story we’re most afraid of—the ones we try to bury—don’t actually go away. They linger, shaping how we see ourselves and the world around us. But when we stop denying them—when we face those parts with courage and compassion—we take back our true power. We realise that our wounds don’t have to define us. Instead, they can become a source of strength, teaching us lessons and helping us grow into the people we’re meant to be.

Owning your story isn’t about pretending everything is okay. It’s about acknowledging the pain, the mistakes, and the struggles while also recognizing the resilience and wisdom that came from them. It’s about saying, “This is where I’ve been, but it’s not where I’m staying.”

So, if you’re carrying pieces of your story that feel too heavy to hold, I want to remind you that:
