Starting Yoga
When I started Yoga for the very first time all those years ago it was a very different time. The internet was only just getting started and social media was non-excisting. I knew what I was getting myself into and didn’t have any grand expectations. I didn’t expect Yoga to make me more flexible, Zen, or even spiritual. All I knew was that I was going to move my body in a better way and learn new ways to use my breath to calm my nerves and overcome any anxiety. You see, it was pregnancy yoga that got me started 19 years ago. I think that these days it is tougher for people to bite the bullet and start yoga. Social media is awash with beautiful young, strong and flexible bodies doing all sorts of interesting contortions. That can be really intimidating if you feel you aren’t anything like that. I sure wasn’t a gymnast in the making back then and still today I have no desire to do head stands or place my feet behind my head.
When you do a yoga class with me you get a different experience every week. We are all individuals and need different things at different times. With other people sharing the class with you how could the class be the same week in week out? There is a class format though. We are all different with different capabilities. In my class you are always encouraged to only move within your own range of mobility. You never have to make a shape that resembles the perfect pose. And even though we move at a slower pace it doesn’t mean that you aren’t working hard. Bring a little towel to class and a bottle of water because you will be working up a sweat. I look forward to welcoming you to an hour of yoga with me. An hour you will not regret.
