๐Ÿฅœ Toast with peanut butter or avocado
๐Ÿฅ‘ Hummus or Guacamole with veggies sticks or wholegrain crackers
๐ŸŒฐ Peanut butter and sweet potato brownies
๐Ÿซ’ Oil based dressings and sauces
๐Ÿฅฃ Flaxseeds or chia seeds in my overnight oats

๐Ÿฃ Oily fish is the best source of healthy fats. So if you eat fish, try salmon on brown bread for your next brunch or gathering ๐Ÿฃ

The way I look at it, every food you eat and drink has a function. And that function isnโ€™t always the providing nutrients.

For example: cake doesnโ€™t provide many essential vitamins and minerals, but Iโ€™d be very disappointed if no one organized a cake for my birthday party ๐Ÿฅณ

Here are a few more examples of functions foods can have:

๐Ÿณ Breakfast gives you energy to get through the morning.

๐Ÿฅ— Salad dressing helps you eat more veg.

๐Ÿž Wholegrain bread helps keep your bowels moving.

โ˜•๏ธ Coffee gives you an excuse to gossip with your colleagues.

๐ŸŽ‚ Cake brings people together for celebrations.

๐Ÿฅค Sports drinks help you survive a hangover.

๐Ÿจ Cookie dough ice cream comforts you when your heart is broken.

All these different functions is why I donโ€™t label foods as โ€œgoodโ€ or โ€œbadโ€.

Instead, think about what function each food is providing and how you could make changes to what you eat to better serve your nutrition needs and goals.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Spray oils are something I use daily for almost every meal I cook, so Iโ€™ve been loving experimenting with the different varieties Sussed sent me. I canโ€™t wait to share some recipes with you all!

๐Ÿ’› The nutrition nerd in me is particularly excited by the healthy heart plus oil because it has added algae oil for omega-3.

๐Ÿฅค no fizzy drinks this week and caffeine intake is definitely decreasing

By introducing breakfast, reducing caffeine intake in the afternoon, and introducing a pre-run snack, Alan felt a great improvement in his overall health and performance.

Vitamin D is actually a hormone that helps your body:

๐Ÿฆด keep bones and teeth strong
๐Ÿ’ช contract muscles

And supports your:

You have vitamin D receptors in pretty much every part of your body, meaning itโ€™s needed for most things your body does.

Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s super important that you prevent vitamin D deficiency so your body can continue to work properly.

๐Ÿ’Š During Autumn and Winter, the best way to make sure youโ€™re getting enough vitamin D is by taking a supplement.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช In Ireland, a 15ug or 600IU daily vitamin D supplement is recommended from Halloween until St Patrickโ€™s day.
