愛爾蘭的工簽種類很多,常見的就是屬一般工作簽,高技術工作簽?和Hosting Agreement 以及公司內轉的工簽。今年的政策改革,讓一般工作簽持有者和公司內轉的工簽持有者,可以一併幫伴侶申請 Stamp 1G。

雖然今年提升了工作簽申請的薪資要求,同時減少 Critical Skills Employment Permit 的許可,但工簽持有者的福利也相對增加。這趨勢和其他國家一樣,僅希望吸引專業技術且有即戰力的人才,因此若工作年資相對少的求職者,勢必會更辛苦一點,因為光是工簽申請的薪資門檻就讓雇主卻步

Do you need a VISA? 大概是海外工作一定會被問到的問題,但也因為很多人把 VISA 和 Work Permit 搞混,而錯失了面試的原因。

有些 VISA 賦予了申請者一些優惠,好把英國的 Graduate VISA, 愛爾蘭畢業後簽證 Stamp 1G 以及荷蘭的 Search Year VISA 這都是該國為吸引擁有高等教育學位的學生畢業後留下來就業,或前往當地工作所核發的簽證。擁有該簽證的人,是不需要就業許可 (Work Permit) 就可以工作的。

我之前在面試時,被問到要不要 VISA,因為愛爾蘭碩士畢業後可以申請 Stamp 1G,但不需要雇主的錄取信,只要有畢業證明和找工作的證明 (好比投履歷的截圖) 就可以自己申請,所以我回答需要但我已經有申請了,且雇主那邊不需要任何動作,也才因此有機會進到面試的第二關

撇除唸書,當然也可以用打工度假或語言學校的方式取得 Long-term VISA,愛爾蘭移民局官網也提醒,有 VISA 不代表一定能在愛爾蘭工作,有 Work Permit 不代表能長期居留愛爾蘭!(但兩者是相輔相成的
至於 Work Permit,愛爾蘭政府官網有說明 "The fee for an employment permit must be paid by the applicant, that is, the employer/employee/connected person or contractor, or their authorised agent." 等等,這不就代表求職者可以自行申請 Work Permit!?

What to Expect in the Final Round of Interviews

Due to the impact of COVID-19, many interviews have been conducted virtually, which can offer advantages for interviewees.

Compared to Taiwan, there seems to be less focus on candidates' monitoring backgrounds but more emphasis on their in-depth knowledge of regulations and GCP.

最終輪的面試前,我自己都會去 LinkedIn 收尋面試官的背景 (雖然沒什麼幫助XD) 但至少先了解長相,名稱和名字。

面試時,通常會 2-3 位面試官,其中一位通常就是自己入職後的 Line Manager,個人經驗上,也是會議中最為安靜的 (可能從旁打分數吧

雖然現在多半以線上面試代替,但該有的服裝禮儀都是標配,這就不多說了。最後,雖然老派,但結束後都習慣發感謝信,畢竟對方也是花了時間來面試自己

最後,面試的回答盡可能採取開門見山

- 開頭先說明自己的答案
- 解釋原因
- 舉例佐證
- 最後結語再次呼應自己的答案

若問到優劣分析,則利用SWOT

總之,就是用外國人的溝通邏輯來思考

交接,一個令 CRA 又愛又恨的事情

除了趕上 SDV/SDR 以及確保 Safety Issue/Protocol Deviation 通報,還要把過往紀錄統整在 Handover Checklist。通常 CRA 也會有自己的 Excel (尤其 submission tracker 紀錄所有試驗文件核准日期,期中報告何時過期等等) 和 TMF List。

不只如此,還有 CRA on-site 交接,對點所有受試者文件和資料,還要確保 ISF 的內容...想到就頭痛。交接後,還有被要求 Co-monitoring 的可能..

反觀,國外的交接非常仰賴 CRA 自身修為和運氣,原則上只有 SOP 提及的文件會出現外 (也就是只有 Handover Checklist),其他文件要什麼沒什麼...也不會有 on-site handover...

電話面試其實說難不難,但一但失誤,就是比較沒有機會翻盤。

主要因為電話面試對於公司就是快狠準,確保應徵者的資格和其履歷相符,同時也符合職務的Job Description。所以不會問太實際或操作面的問題,反而全面的了解應徵者的背景資料。

但個人覺得電話面試是最難準備,因為不確定何時公司會打電話過來,也不確定問的問題是否能及時反應過來。總之,多練習總是唯一不變的方法

淺談一下住進了富人區的滿月心得

大概一個月前要搬家找新的房間,原本找好了卻因為房東在我搬家前兩天反悔,導致我需要在極短的時間找到另一個住所。在竭盡所有資源下,就找到現今的落腳處 - 愛爾蘭的富人區

姑且不論租金的提高,倒是想聊聊住了一個月的感想

- 因為出差,有時候會以計程車作為交通工作,加上來往地點不是機場就是醫院。曾有兩三次,當報出地址時,司機就會投射出不一樣的眼光進而詢問職業。在過去的一年,我居住在都柏林其他非富人區時,這是從未有的待遇

- 週六固定的買菜行程,可以感受到當地社區的生活差異,以車代步不用說,連買菜都要 well dressed。同時這邊也不都居住著愛爾蘭人,反倒像是小小的國際村

比起外在的環境改變,反倒是比較關心自己內心的感受。似乎免不了的有社交焦慮,尤其搭計程車的時候。看來只能整趟裝睡了

八月,夏天結束了。同時,也是我個人焦慮感爆棚的月份


- 房租合約到期。大家說,台北居大不易; 我說,Dublin 居要運氣

愛爾蘭固然不是全球房產危機最嚴重的國家,但卻有著極複雜且難以解決的困境。要在這找到合宜的租房,除了要有錢,還要有運氣

憑著公司稅低廉,英語為母語和地域優勢 (夾在美國和歐陸國家中間,時差恰好完美配合歐美各國),各企業的進駐,帶動房價的上升,過往 10 年,房價漲幅高達 93.23% (Inflation Adjusted),高居全球第四 (1),相比台灣的 34.91% 著實可怕。

這兩週為了找到合適的房子,特別排開一週不出差,想想也是挺走險,因為萬一沒找到,大概就是搭帳篷了 (如今,找房 ing...

而房子的著落,牽動著許多文件的申請


- 居留證展延

身為海外從業人員,居留證就猶如生死簿,沒有了居留證,即使有工作且全職,也保不住。而簽證即將於九月到期的我來說,真的是如坐針氈

愛爾蘭居留證申請的文件之一就是居住證明,必須要有房東提供的手寫信件,或是居住地的帳單作為依據。而且,這份文件常常被移民局官員放大檢視


- 保險地址更新/銀行地址更新/駕照地址更新/公司個人資料更新/手機帳單更新

林林總總的文件,舉凡需要繳交居住證明作為申請的文件之一,都要更新。俗話說得好,那些殺死你的,都不致命...


- 年中績效講評

每家公司都會有績效評估,我所在的公司也不例外。本週才和主管聊完,帶著亞洲人思維,依舊習慣用數據做說明。做了 Slide,列出經手的案子,執行的 Site 數目,受試者招募成就,以及每月的出差次數。

是的,都達標。

以數據呈現了過往一年的努力,主管跑出報表,也驚訝的說到沒有任何紅字。但這對於亞洲出身的 CRA 來講,不是很理所當然嗎?公司列舉的要求,早就熟知是 minimum,達到本是應該。所以也就放心的繼續開會。

BUT How? Since you travel a lot, how did you manage it?

主管的一句話讓我啞口,除了因為英文尚未精通到信手捻來,無法即時回應,更多的是不解?不是都達標了嗎?公司不是都結果論的嗎?

這不經讓我心頭一冷,看來加薪升遷無望了...


雖然心中一直有底,告訴自己要以外國人的思維做分享,尤其是開會簡報這種毫無思考時間,一切都發生在瞬間的溝通和思想交流。我 Slide 的內容,後來回想其實主管都能從公司的 System 跑出報表,而她要知道的是,那些報表沒有呈現的內容

仍舊因為外在事務太雜,加上自身認知到工作效率有待提升,一直遲遲未能撥空提升這塊能力,英文也好,換位 (以外國人的角度) 思考也好。這也讓我想到很有名的 Golden Circle (2),也是一直列在待分享清單中的一個主題,等時機成熟,再來詳細分享好了

總之,每每的121 Meeting 總讓我收穫滿滿,很慶幸自己有機會在這樣的場合,接受文化的洗禮。也讓我更體會到所謂的跨文化溝通,真的要有文化底蘊和一定的語言能力/背景知識


洋洋灑灑的寫了一篇,交代了最近近況。雖然身外之事,要忙到明年二三月,但期許這篇寫給自己的文章,能作為警惕

- 請努力賺錢買房,脫離找房的窘況
- 死板的個人數據能讓我踏入歐洲職場工作,但軟實力的提升,才能達到更高的 Level 看到更不一樣的風景
- 英文和文化底蘊有待加強 😞

Immersed in Connemara's enchanting embrace 🌊💚

Last summer, I had a memorable experience when I visited Connemara National Park with my friends. Towering mountains, rolling hills, and sparkling lakes painted a stunning landscape that felt like stepping into a postcard.

手機跳出回顧,想到去年的夏天正好和朋友去爬山。愛爾蘭有 6 個國家公園,Connemara 是其中一個,也是唯一一個在 Galway 郡。路線算平坦和輕鬆,但也可以攀登相對陡峭的主山脈。因為都有開發程度,不用額外帶器具手套等等,大概就像是台北的金面山。只是有一段相對窄小,風大的時候會癢癢的XDD

爬完大約只要 3 小時左右,下山時,走約莫 20 分鐘可以去吃 Veldons Seafarer Bar & Restaurant,這家也是挺有名的,而且餐廳旁就是超市,採購也方便。下午可以去 Kylemore Abbey,但因為離餐廳和 Connermara 山腳超遠,當初是找當地計程車來回載送,所以如果有打算去 Connemara 的話,開車會方便非常多。Kylemore Abbey 是真的推薦去,園區算大,爬完山還要逛整個園區可能會很累,若只打算一日遊,就直闖修女院就好。

這也是來愛爾蘭收集的第一個國家公園

With the introduction and enforcement of new regulations, the landscape of the medical device market in clinical research has undergone significant changes. The implementation of EU 2017/746 has particularly favored Contract Research Organizations (CROs), as most medical devices now necessitate clinical investigation before obtaining market licenses. In Taiwan, local CRO companies find it challenging to compete and secure market share, making Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs) a viable alternative for ventures.

醫材,因為國際法規的要求,開始要執行臨床試驗,才能遞交上市核准,這也有利於 CRO 公司獲利。反觀,台灣在醫材領域,CDMO 上是相對成熟且有優勢,不然早先隱形眼鏡的代工,或是心導管/手術刀等代工不會造就一個又一個股王股后。

國際上,CDMO 和 CRO 的結合也不是沒有,Thermo Fisher 和 PRA 的結合就是一個案例。總之,就是時世造英雄啦

COV - Close-out visit

Conducting a COV can be straightforward when there are limited actions to take, particularly for studies without enrolled subjects. However, it can also present challenges as this visit serves as the final opportunity for CRA to address pending documents, issues, and queries. In general, each study will provide a COV checklist for the CRA's guidance, and the CRA should also bear in mind that site staff may be passive after COV.

COV 對 CRA 來說也是種解脫,終於可以把案子結束,在等待新案的同時有機會喘口氣。但對於轉手多位 CRA,又舊收案又多的案子,那 COV 可能是場災難,因為很大壓力來源在於 eTMF Finding 和 Site Issue,那些過客 (Site Staff, CRA) 都得留下痕跡,好比 CV/GCP, FDF, FDA1572 (若案子沒在美國執行不需要該文件), Handover 文件等等

通常剛入職新人,很常接手這種受試者都穩定 Follow-up,或是已經沒有受試者的案子,這時候如果又完成數據的收集等等,很容易就會被要求執行 COV

個人沒有很愛 COV,只比 SIV 好一點,除非是很 pure 完全沒受試者的案子

A new CRO: Fortrea, a spin-off from Labcorp

Based on the current stock price of Fortrea at $32, it appears to be a strategic consolidation of Covance/Chiltern's existing business, capitalizing on the resources and customer base of Labcorp to achieve maturity and independence as a CRO.

However, if Fortrea confines itself solely to clinical trials in the drugs/vaccines development, it may be following a conventional path that lacks novelty. The extent of their success will rely on their ability to establish connections with Labcorp's medical equipment and diagnostic development business.

As of today, Fitch Ratings has assigned a BB rating, indicating a need for caution.

難怪之前我投履歷都沒有被已讀,畢竟在公司部門的異動下,不太會有招聘的大動作吧 (讓我牽拖一下

總之,有新 CRO 的出現就是好事,畢竟 Labcorp 可是 top 10 medical device CRO 公司,希望 Fortrea 能跨領域到醫材臨床試驗,雖然個人覺得要再 2-3 年,歐盟新法規帶動的效益才會吹到亞洲,不過有新的浪潮總是讓人感到興奮,也是上車的機會?

Every company has its own minimum requirement for on-site visits per quarter for CRA, but typically most CRO companies expect around five visits per month. However, this requirement appears to be different in pharmaceutical companies.

身為可拋棄式的資產,CRA 在 CRO 的制度下,就像賣身的小孩?從接案前要被試驗贊助商審查履歷以外 (試驗贊助商可以拒絕 CRO 所推薦的 CRA 的喔),出差的頻率,天數等等都要依照案件標準執行 (Monitoring Plan)。像先前有一次去 Cornwall,幾乎是英國最南端的鄉鎮,路途之遙遠,一星期才 2 班班次,還沒有當日來回,導致那一次的出差需要花 3 天完成....

總之,出差有獎金這件事,對台灣出身的 CRA 來說應該挺新鮮,在出差賣身的日子,還有激勵獎金 (聽起來好變態XDD。但這次 Q2 的部分沒達標而且我 Q1 的獎金到現在還沒領到,不然吃飯就可加顆滷蛋了

Clinical Research: Team Members and Their Roles

A diverse range of skills and experience is essential for the successful ex*****on of clinical research. While the composition of the team may differ across institutions, a minimum requirement typically includes a Principal Investigator (PI), Sub-Investigator (Sub-I), Study Coordinator (SC), Nurse, and Pharmacist (although the presence of a pharmacist may not be mandatory in certain commercial studies).

在臨床試驗中,成員百百種,可能是在台灣有些年的 CRA 經驗,個人還是偏好單一窗口,只要找一個人就能處理所有試驗細節。雖然這也是反映出台灣 SC 承擔過多責任和職務內容的現象,一個人能做的事情就這麼多,想必外溢出來的事情就得由 CRA 一起完成。

國外固然分工細,有專責的人員處理單一任務,但不代表 CRA 不需協同分擔工作,若真的要比較差異,在台灣當 CRA 相對上會承擔很多責任和工作沒錯。

至於職務上,國外比較沒有上下階層?反正 SC, Nurse, Investigator 大家都差不多,但不代表 PI 真的會履行自己的責任,那種 System Training, Safety Online AoR 若只有 PI 有權限的,大概等緣份到了,PI 自然會幫你完成....(最近有一案子,PI 遲遲未完成 Training 導致一直無法 Site Activation,另一案子也是因此 COV 完還有 Pending Issue,真的是壓力山大....

A comprehensive overview of the Master's program and the role of clinical research facility within AROs



國際間的碩士 (clinical trial/research) 相對少,在愛爾蘭也只有兩間大學有相關的碩士課程,其中又以 NUIG (University of Galway) 有提供實習,且網路資料較全面,課程也涵蓋較廣泛。

海外求學的好處就是,還沒畢業前就有機會找到學術界的工作,先卡位。拿到工作後把學生簽證轉往工作簽證,但同時還是可以繼續上課,因為第二學期,通常一星期只有 1-2 堂課,所以不會花很多時間。總之,這些都可以和雇主討論 (若沒記錯,只要達到畢業門檻,不會因此沒有畢業證書)。總之呢,很多同班同學就是走這條路,學生簽證 (stamp 2) - 拿到工作申請 Hosting Agreement - 轉一般工作簽 (Stamp 1) 。若順利工作滿兩年,就可以轉所謂的長期居留權 (Stamp 4)。薪水的部分,在學術界都以 IUA 為主,連結在下方請自行查閱。愛爾蘭的簽證細節之後會再分享。

總之,真的有人是從海外投履歷面試上的,所以若各位有興趣不仿試試看。當初的我因為完全不知道這麽多細節和內容 (因為沒經驗,導致自己找網路資料也有盲點),就選擇出國唸書這條路
