Skin & Hair Clinic

Skin & Hair Clinic 'Where timely and professional health care matters' The National Cancer Registry of Ireland (NCRI) expects this number to double by 2040.

We are passionate about two specialized areas in Dermatology:

1) Diagnostics & treatment of SKIN-CANCER.
'Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland, with over 13,000 new cases diagnosed every year. Majority of cases are caused by UV rays from the sun or sunbeds.' For the best outcome, patients with skin cancer are best co-managed by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, oncologists and occasionally GPs with an interest in this area.

2) Diagnostics & therapeutics for SCARRING-ALOPECIA. https://irishskin.ie/2020/01/09/update-on-alopecia/

The terminology associated with melanoma can be overwhelming for patients, making it difficult for them to understand their diagnosis and treatment options. This complexity arises from the medical jargon healthcare professionals use, which often includes technical terms and acronyms unfamiliar to the average person.

In our Melanoma 101 Video Series, Melissa Wilson, PA-C, MPAS, breaks down complex terminology in easy-to-digest short videos. She's covered everything from What to Expect at Your Annual Skin Exam to Explaining the Stages of the Disease.

👶 ☀️ 🚨
Practicing sun safety is important at all ages, however, studies suggest that approximately a quarter of UV damage happens to our skin before the age of 20!

We have plenty of advice for parents looking to protect their children’s skin from the sun on our Patient Hub, however you can find a few taster tips below:

• Babies should be kept out of direct sunlight, not only to reduce their UV exposure but also to reduce the heat load on the baby

• Clothing and shade should always be the first line of defence for children under the age of two. Broad-brimmed hats are particularly good as they protect the back of the neck and ears.

• Sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and a high UVA protection should be applied liberally to exposed areas of the skin and regularly (every two hours or after sweating/swimming).

Making use of shade and wearing protective clothing, such as a broad-brimmed hat, long sleeved shirt, and sunglasses, should always be your first line of defence against sun damage.

But if you are going to be in the sun, particularly if the UV index is above 2, you should make sure you have applied a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30.

Our handy fact sheet tells you everything you need to know about sunscreen this
