Next up is beautiful Sanya from India 🇮🇳

Sanya recently joined the Home Instead family in the scheduling department in Leopardstown 🪻💜

Sanya enjoys the fact that her job allows her to learn about different cultures and engage with people from different countries. She finds learning about clients and CAREGivers interesting, and knowing more about them helps in her job.

Speaking about her own Indian culture, Sanya spoke about how the Indian culture encourages strong family values and staying connected with family. Sanya says that this helps her understand family's concerns for their loved ones. This motivates her to do the best she can in her job.

Thank you, Sanya, for sharing a bit about the Indian culture with us 😀

Our wonderful CAREGiver Vesna, shared a bit about Croatian culture with us this week.

Dia duit, Vesna is ainm dom.

Hello, my name is Vesna, but many people call me Vanessa.
My culture is rooted in the warmth and resilience of Croatian heritage, with unique influences from my home region of Istria, a small bilingual peninsula on the Adriatic Sea where both Italian and Croatian are spoken. Historically, Istria was once part of Italy, and this blend of influences is woven into our culture, food, and customs. Growing up in Istria, I learned the importance of family, community, and respecting traditions—values I bring with me each day as a CAREGiver.

In Croatian culture, it’s common for children to care for their elderly parents at home, and older adults only move to specialized facilities if health needs truly require it. This tradition makes my work with Home Instead even more meaningful, as I can visit clients in their homes, helping them stay in familiar surroundings, which brings me great joy.

After working as a designer, where creativity was key, I felt a calling to move to Ireland—a beautiful country with generous people—and to bring my creativity into caregiving. I am truly impressed by Irish culture, especially the traditional step dancing and music, which I would love to learn. Above all, I am passionate about learning a few words in the Celtic Irish language. Growing up in such a rich, blended culture taught me to value diversity and find common ground with others, helping me connect with my clients and appreciate their unique backgrounds and stories. This adds to the joy and purpose I feel every day as a CAREGiver.

CAREGiver Culture Week continues today. A wonderful representation of the various cultural backgrounds that make up the team here in the office. 💜🪻

Today we had a visit from our wonderful carer Donal who shared some ‘Irishisms’ with us and told us stories about how his Irish culture has shaped his journey as a carer. 🇮🇪 We spoke about tone of speech and different grammar and how this comes from translating from the Irish language to English. The many different ways of describing rain in Irish was a favourite topic of discussion 😉☘️☔️

Are you planning on dropping in to visit us this week or do you have a story about your culture to share with us?

The dementia bus will be in Leopardstown, all day tomorrow.

The bus is a simulator that gives a person with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like. Those who take part in the experience may be given tasks to do in the bus, however abilities are influenced by the environment and make this much more difficult.

A great way to experience somewhat, those with Alzheimer’s and dementia may feel. 💜🪻☘️
