Irish Reflexologists' Institute

Irish Reflexologists' Institute The Irish Reflexologists' Institute is the membership institute of choice for Irish reflexologists. The office now operates with fluid opening hours.

The Irish Reflexologists' Institute (IRI) is a self regulating members representative body established in 1985 to represent and promote Reflexology in Ireland. A Voluntary Board of Directors made up from the membership of practicing Reflexologists are elected by the members each year at the AGM. All members are welcome and encouraged to give their time to assist the work of the IRI. The office is currently located in Sligo and is supported by secretarial services and business and IT consultants. Enquiries should preferably be directed by email to administrator@reflexology.ie or a message can be left on the IRI phone 085 2153475. The IRIL offers annual membership to all qualified Reflexologists at home and abroad in addition to offering student membership for those training to be a reflexologist. The application is now available online. Please see www.reflexology.ie for further details on the current membership requirements. The membership options are Full / Associate / Student memberships. The IRI are proud of the high standard maintained by its members which ensures and safeguards the quality of treatments being provided to the public. We ensure that all our members carry Professional Indemnity Insurance and are trained in First Aid. In addition we ensure our members update and refresh their skill set annually by completing 100 Continuous Professional Development points in each calendar year. The IRI have negotiated a refund system with all major Private Health Care providers including VHI, Laya, and Irish Life. Depending on their policy and level of cover, members of the public with private health care policies can claim a refund when they receive a Reflexology Treatment after submitting a receipt provided by one of our current members. Only fully paid up current members of the IRI are eligible to participate in this refund system. Please see our website www.reflexology.ie for a comprehensive list of Reflexologists who wish to be promoted through our website as providing Reflexology treatments.

In reflexology, balance isn’t about fixing or forcing the body into shape. It’s about supporting the body’s natural ability to find steadiness - physically, emotionally, and mentally.

So often, clients arrive feeling pulled in too many directions. Reflexology offers a pause, a chance to slow down and allow balance to return in its own time.

Balance doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It means things feel a little more manageable.

The immune system is closely linked to the nervous system, lymphatic system, and the body’s response to stress. When the body is under prolonged stress, immune function can become less efficient, affecting recovery and resilience.

Reflexology is a holistic therapy that works by encouraging deep relaxation and supporting the body’s natural self-regulation. By helping to calm the nervous system, reflexology may assist in reducing the physiological effects of stress, which in turn supports immune processes.

Reflexology is also thought to support lymphatic flow, an important part of immune function that helps the body move waste products and maintain internal balance.

By working gently with the whole body rather than targeting symptoms alone, reflexology supports balance and resilience, helping the body function as effectively as possible over time.

❤️ Reasons to Love Reflexology No. 14 - Immune system support during winter

Colds and flus tend to circulate more easily during the winter months, especially when our bodies are under extra strain from busy schedules, reduced daylight, and disrupted routines.

Reflexology doesn’t claim to prevent illness, but it can play a supportive role by helping the body relax, reducing stress, and encouraging balance - all of which are important factors in supporting overall wellbeing during winter.

At a time of year when our defences may feel a little stretched, reflexology offers gentle, holistic support to help the body do what it does best.

Nollaig na mban is a pause in the season. A day that recognises how much women carry, and gently invites us to lay it down.

Rooted in irish tradition, today honours rest, care, and connection among women - not as something earned, but as something deserved.

May this women’s christmas be a reminder: Softening is not weakness. It is wisdom.

Returning to routine after a few unstructured weeks can have a real impact on sleep.

Later nights, disrupted patterns, and a busy mind are common at this time of year, especially as work schedules and responsibilities resume. Quality sleep isn’t something we can force, but it can be gently supported.

Reflexology offers a calming, restorative space that helps the body slow down and settle. By supporting relaxation and balance, it can be a helpful part of a wider approach to improving sleep during times of transition.

As routines re-establish, small, supportive practices can make a meaningful difference.

January can arrive quietly and yet it can still feel like a lot. 😪

After the intensity of December, many people notice increased tiredness, low mood, nervous system overload, or a sense of pressure to be “back on form.” This isn’t a personal failing. It’s a natural response to seasonal change, emotional load, and returning routines.

Reflexology doesn’t aim to rush this process or override it. Instead, it offers gentle, holistic support - helping clients slow down, reconnect with their bodies, and find balance at their own pace. In a month that often asks for too much, reflexology creates space to listen, regulate, and reset.

January doesn’t ask us to rush. It asks us to return gently.

Coming back to practice after time away can feel tender. You might be ready in some ways and tired in others - and that’s completely natural. This checklist is a reminder that easing back in is not a step back, but an act of care for yourself, your nervous system, and the work you offer.

Your practice doesn’t need to be at full pace straight away. Sustainable, supportive reflexology begins with listening, to your body, your energy, and what feels possible right now.

Which one are you focusing on this January?

✨ Different rituals. Same hope.

Across cultures, New Year’s Eve is a moment of pause - a breath between what’s been and what’s coming.

Whether it’s opening doors, lighting fires, sharing food, or making noise into the night, the intention is the same:

to gently release the weight of the old year
and make space for something new to arrive.

You don’t need a ritual to begin again.

But you are allowed to let go.

And you are allowed to hope. ✨
