Caroline Winstanley - Autism Specialist

Caroline Winstanley - Autism Specialist I lead a team of clinical psychologists and speech & language therapists that provide multi-disciplinary neuro-affirmative autism diagnostic assessments.

Since 2011 we have provided assessment services to children & adults, HSE, schools & charities. I've worked in private and public health in Ireland, UK and overseas in home, clinic and school settings. Since 2010 I lead a Multi-Disciplinary Autism Assessment service for private clients and organisations, providing assessments throughout Leinster. Between 2007 and 2010, I worked as a consultant for a number of Autism organisations overseas. I advised how to develop services; carried out direct work with families; and provided training to parents and professionals. I covered a range of subjects including structured teaching; curriculum and environment adaptation; and supporting non-verbal children. From 2005 to 2007 I worked in the NHS (UK). I worked with clients aged 4 to 18 with a range of communication needs, in both special and mainstream schools. I also had a specialist caseload of children and young people with Autism. Between 2003 and 2005, I worked at a special residential school for children aged 7 to 19 who had severe learning disabilities, challenging behaviour and were on the Autistic spectrum. My role included: 1-to-1 and group therapy; staff training; alternative augmentative communication; implementing TEACCH strategies; using Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). I worked within a multidisciplinary team which included occupational therapist, music therapists and psychologists.

Hi Everyone, I have some exciting news to share. I will be standing in my local elections for the Social Democrats. I won't be posting further about this on this page, but if you would like to find out more or follow my campaign, please follow the links below.

I'm excited to share that I’ve just been selected to stand as a Social Democrats candidate for the Bray West Area (which includes parts of Bray, Kilmacanoge & Enniskerry) in the upcoming local elections to Wicklow County Council.

I joined the Social Democrats because I believe in a fair and inclusive society that doesn’t leave anyone behind. This will be the focus of my campaign and work as a Councillor. I want to see real change in local housing provision and improved local investment in education, public services, healthcare, the environment, and transport.

If you have any questions, or would like to get involved in my campaign, I’d love to hear from you. You can follow the progress of my campaign on social media and support my campaign here -

She also spoke with DFI's Development Manager PJ Cleere, about the impact on communities of elections and the importance of disability votes.

And disability activist Carolyn Akintola from Dublin shares her experiences with elections and has the simple ask that there is 'nothing about us, without us' when it comes to disabled people and elections. Just ask!
