Dry Eye occurs if your tears can’t fully lubricate your eye. Your ‘tear film’, a smooth surface that protects your eye, can become oily and unstable, evaporating too quickly and causing dryness.
This can lead to itching, redness, and even blurred vision.
Common Causes Include:
1. Increase in the natural oil content of the lens (Meibomian Gland Dysfunction)
2. Hormonal Changes: As we age, hormonal shifts can affect tear production.
3. Environmental Factors: exposure to dry, air-conditioned settings and long screen times.
4. Medications: Some medications such as antihistamines can impact tear production.
5. Health Conditions: Autoimmune diseases can contribute to dry eyes.
