Client Success Story: Terrance’s Journey Back to Work

Terrance is a 30-year-old man who experienced an acquired brain injury following a road accident. Before the accident, he had a successful career as a teacher. After several years in rehabilitation, Terrance began the challenging journey of rebuilding his life and confidence.

Through his rehabilitation hospital, Terrance learned about EmployAbility Dublin South, a service that supports people with disabilities or health conditions to return to employment.

When Terrance first met with his Job Coach, he spoke about his wish to return to teaching. However, as they worked together, it became clear that the impact of his brain injury, particularly memory difficulties, meant a different career path might be more suitable.

Together, they focused on breaking goals into small, manageable steps, helping Terrance rebuild his confidence and recognise his strengths.

Terrance discovered that many of his skills were still valuable and transferable, including:
✔ Time management
✔ Organisation
✔ Patience and persistence

Because of his passion for sport, his Job Coach connected him with a local sporting venue. With support from the Wage Subsidy Scheme, Terrance began working 21 hours per week managing the venue and organising schedules for club users.

To support his memory, tasks are provided both verbally and in writing, helping him work confidently and independently.

Since returning to employment, Terrance’s confidence, wellbeing, and sense of purpose have improved greatly.

Terrance’s journey shows that with the right support, patience, and opportunities, people can rebuild their careers and their lives after life-changing challenges.

At EmployAbility Dublin South, we support people every step of the way toward sustainable employment.

"Different communication style" or "fresh perspective"?
Time to flip the script.

You might see: "Different communication style"
We see:

✨ Fresh perspectives
✨ Creative problem-solving
✨ Unique insights
✨ Innovation through diversity

Here's what nobody tells you about "different communication":
Sometimes it's more direct. Sometimes it's more honest. Sometimes it cuts through corporate nonsense and gets straight to the point.

And sometimes? That's exactly what your team needs.
What "different communication" can bring:
→ Fresh approaches to old problems
→ Questions that challenge assumptions
→ Perspectives that others miss
→ Clarity where there was confusion
→ Innovation that comes from thinking differently

Critical reminder: Communication styles vary widely among people with disabilities—just like everyone else. Some are exceptional presenters. Some prefer written communication. Some excel at customer service. We match based on the individual, not assumptions.

Why this matters for your business:
Diverse teams make better decisions. Different perspectives lead to innovation. And the Wage Subsidy Scheme provides financial support (€6.30-€9.45/hour) while you build that diversity.

The reality? What you initially see as "different" often becomes the competitive advantage you didn't know you needed.

EmployAbility Dublin South helps you:
✅ Match individuals (not stereotypes) to roles
✅ Access Wage Subsidy Scheme support
✅ Build genuinely diverse teams
✅ Get ongoing guidance and support

"Preference for routine" or "consistently reliable"?

Let's reframe this.
You might see: "Preference for routine"

We see:
✨ Exceptional reliability
✨ Strong attendance
✨ Consistent performance
✨ Long-term commitment

Here's the truth: Employers LOVE reliable employees. They value consistency. They appreciate people who show up every day and deliver quality work.

So why do we frame "routine" as a limitation when it's actually what creates the stability every business needs?

What "preference for routine" delivers:
→ Lower turnover (you're not constantly rehiring)
→ Predictable performance (you know what you're getting)
→ Institutional knowledge (they stick around long enough to become experts)
→ Team stability (everyone else benefits from their consistency)

But remember: This isn't about stereotypes. Not everyone with a disability prefers routine. Some thrive on variety and change. We match individuals to roles based on THEIR specific preferences and YOUR actual needs.

The Wage Subsidy Scheme supports smart hiring:
💰 €6.30-€9.45 per hour
📈 Up to €19,136 annually per employee
✅ Government-backed financial support
🤝 Ongoing support from EmployAbility Dublin South
The result? You get employees whose working style actually fits your role—plus financial support to make it happen.

"Needs structure" or "knows what helps them succeed"?

Here's what we need to talk about:
When someone says they work best in a structured environment, that's not a limitation—that's self-awareness.
What "structured environment" actually means:
✓ Clear job expectations
✓ Consistent processes
✓ Regular feedback
✓ Defined communication

Sound familiar? That's because EVERY good employee thrives with these things.
The difference? Some people ask for it upfront. Others struggle in silence and quit after six months.

You might see: "Need for structured environment"
We see:

✨ Exceptional attention to detail
✨ Consistency in quality
✨ Fewer errors
✨ Pattern recognition
✨ Someone who communicates what they need to do great work

But here's the important part: Not everyone with a disability has these traits. People are individuals with diverse skills. Our job? Match the RIGHT person with the RIGHT role based on THEIR specific strengths.
The Wage Subsidy Scheme provides support:
💰 €6.30-€9.45 per hour financial support
📋 Covers role adaptations when needed
✅ Tax-exempt grant
You get: Dedicated employees matched to roles where they can genuinely excel—not based on stereotypes, but on their actual skills.

It's time to rethink hiring—not because the old way is wrong, but because there's a better way forward.

We know traditional recruitment is time-consuming, expensive, and uncertain.
You post a job. You get flooded with CVs. You spend hours screening. You interview. You hope this one stays longer than the last one.
What if hiring could be:

✓ Less expensive (government subsidies available)
✓ More supported (we handle screening and matching)
✓ Lower risk (higher retention rates proven)
✓ More rewarding (build a genuinely inclusive team)
That's what rethinking hiring offers.
It's not about lowering standards. It's about broadening where you look for talent.
It's not about taking risks. It's about accessing proven support systems (WSS + EmployAbility Dublin South).
It's not about charity. It's about smart business with financial incentives.

How rethinking hiring works:
1️⃣ You tell us your hiring needs
2️⃣ We match you with pre-screened candidates
3️⃣ We help you access Wage Subsidy Scheme (€6.30-€9.45/hour)
4️⃣ Employee starts with full support from us
5️⃣ Ongoing check-ins ensure everyone succeeds

What employers who've rethought hiring tell us:
"Wish we'd done this years ago."
"Lower turnover has saved us thousands."
"Our WSS employees are among our most reliable staff."

The financial reality:
€7.35/hour subsidy × 30 hours/week = €220/week = €11,440/year
That's real money supporting real hiring.

Disability or health issue: Let's talk about what this actually means for employers.
When we say "disability or health issue," many employers immediately think of challenges. Let's address the myths head-on:

MYTH: "They'll need constant supervision"
✅ REALITY: Our candidates are job-ready and matched to roles that suit their skills. Most need the same onboarding as any other new hire.

MYTH: "It'll be expensive and complicated"
✅ REALITY: The WSS provides €6.30-€9.45 per hour (up to €368/week per employee). It's tax-exempt financial support, and we handle the applications.

MYTH: "They won't be reliable"
✅ REALITY: Research shows supported employees have higher attendance rates and lower turnover than traditional hires. Why? They're well-matched to their roles and have ongoing support.

MYTH: "This is charity, not business"
✅ REALITY: This is smart hiring. You get skilled employees + financial support + free recruitment assistance + ongoing guidance = better business outcomes.

HERE'S WHAT "DISABILITY OR HEALTH ISSUE" ACTUALLY MEANS:
Someone with a disability, chronic health condition, mental health challenge, injury, or illness who is ready and able to work—often bringing exceptional reliability, attention to detail, and loyalty to their role.

WHAT EMPLOYABILITY DUBLIN SOUTH DOES:
✅ Match you with pre-screened candidates
✅ Help you access the Wage Subsidy Scheme
✅ Support WSS applications (we handle the paperwork)
✅ Provide ongoing support for you and your employee
✅ Problem-solve if challenges arise

Ever heard of the Wage Subsidy Scheme (WSS)? Here’s what Dublin employers should know. 💼

The Wage Subsidy Scheme is a government support designed to make inclusive hiring financially smart.

Here’s how it works:

When you hire a person with a disability or health condition, the Department of Social Protection pays a wage subsidy directly to your business — between €6.30 and €9.45 per hour, depending on how many WSS employees you have.

That’s up to €368 per week per employee.

The subsidy helps offset wage costs where a role has been adapted due to reduced productivity.

Why does the scheme exist?

Because many skilled, capable candidates are overlooked in traditional recruitment processes. WSS supports employers to create inclusive workplaces while maintaining productivity and cost efficiency.

Is there a catch?

No hidden surprises.

You hire through your normal recruitment process.
You offer the same pay and employment conditions as other staff.
You submit a simple online wage claim every 4 weeks.

That’s it.

Who can access the WSS?

✔ Private sector and non-public sector employers
✔ Businesses with tax clearance
✔ Roles of 15–39 hours per week
✔ Minimum 6-month contracts

Where EmployAbility Dublin South comes in:

We support you at every stage:

✔ Identify and match suitable candidates
✔ Guide you through the WSS paperwork
✔ Liaise with DSP
✔ Provide ongoing support for both employer and employee

The result?

Reduced hiring costs.
Access to motivated talent.
Improved retention.
A stronger, more inclusive workplace.

Funded by the Department of Social Protection — designed for smart businesses.
