💚 Adult Safeguarding Day 2025 | Friday, November 7th

This Friday marks Adult Safeguarding Day, a national opportunity to reflect on how we can all help protect and support adults to live with dignity, safety, and independence.

The 2025 theme highlights Assisted Decision-Making, helping each person to make choices about their own life, with the right support in place.

Since the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2023 was introduced, adults in Ireland now have strong legal rights to have their wishes about health, welfare, and finances respected.

Here’s what the law means in practice:
💬 Everyone is presumed to have capacity, and communication support must be provided when needed.
🤝 Formal supports can be arranged at three levels – a Decision-Making Assistant, Co-Decision Maker, or Decision-Making Representative.
📝 Adults are encouraged to plan ahead through an Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) or Advance Healthcare Directive (AHD).
