Perhaps, traditionally better known for its expertise in the treatment and care of older persons, the organisation has remained responsive to changing needs within Ireland. Today, Highfield Healthcare is highly regarded for the provision of acute mental health treatment and care for adults and older persons with acute, serious and enduring mental health disorders and complex mental health issues associated with neuropsychiatric disorders and dementia. Our Services include:
- Alzheimer’s Care Centre
- Elmhurst Nursing Home
- Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit
- Adult Mental Health Day Hospital

The services at Highfield Healthcare are regulated by HIQA and the Mental Health Commission.

We are delighted to share that Highfield Healthcare Mental Health Services is taking part in the National Mental Health Experience Survey.

Service users who have been discharged from our Mental Health Acute Units between 1st April and 30th June 2026 will be eligible to complete a survey asking about their recent experience of care in our inpatient environment.

All survey responses will be anonymised and combined to produce reports on people’s experiences of inpatient mental health care in Ireland, which will be made publicly available.

The findings will help identify what is working well and what can be improved in inpatient mental health care across Ireland.

The National Care Experience Programme (NCEP) is running the survey.

The NCEP is a partnership between the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), the Health Service Executive (HSE), the Mental Health Commission (MHC) and the Department of Health.

This milestone reflects the strength of a collaborative partnership between Highfield Healthcare, fifty_shades_greener, and kildareandwicklowetb

Since September 2025, sustainability at Highfield has evolved from a compliance requirement into an embedded way of thinking – shaping culture, strategy, governance, and day-to-day decision-making. Through structured training and open engagement, teams have built real capability and confidence, strengthening both staff experience and the quality of care delivered to service users 💚

This achievement highlights the value of lifelong learning and accessible education pathways, supported through the SOLAS Skills to Advance Fund 🎓

Last Thursday we marked a truly special milestone Highfield Healthcare’s 200th anniversary 💙

To celebrate, we unveiled “Generations of Care”, a stunning new sculpture by John Coll, created from casts of the hands of our staff and family, arranged in the shape of a heart. It symbolises care, connection, and continuity across generations the values at the heart of everything we do.
