🩵 What is the connection between the lymphatic system and fat metabolism?
Get a quick overview here!
1️⃣ Fat transport:
When we eat fat, it is broken down in the small intestine, forms so-called chylomicrons and is transported into the blood via the lymphatic system - where it is either used as energy or stored.
2️⃣ Lymphoedema & fat:
Lymphoedema occurs when lymph fluid builds up in the legs, for example. Long-term congestion can lead to fat deposits (lipoedema), which are difficult to reduce through conventional weight loss.
3️⃣ Fat and lymph flow:
Excess fat, especially in the abdominal and leg areas, can put a strain on the lymph channels and block lymph flow - which makes swelling even worse.
4️⃣ Cleansing function of the lymph:
The lymphatic system helps the body to remove waste products - including from fat cells. If the lymph does not function properly, residues remain in the body and can promote weight gain.
5️⃣ Immune system & fat:
The lymphatic system is central to our immune defense. Being overweight affects both lymph flow and the balance of the immune system - so healthy lymph flow is essential for the entire body.
✨ In short:
A healthy lymphatic system supports fat metabolism, the immune system and weight control!
