What is lymphatic obstruction? Health risks
Lymphatic obstruction is a common health problem that can lead to an accumulation of toxins in the body, triggering a number of negative effects. One of the most important consequences is the accumulation of body fat and water retention. When lymphatic flow is impeded, toxins are not effectively eliminated from tissues, affecting cell function, slowing metabolism and increasing the risk of weight gain and edema.

🩸 Too much glucose in the blood can lead to diabetes - mainly due to insulin resistance.
🔍 What is insulin resistance?
It occurs when the cells in the muscles, fatty tissue and liver no longer react properly to insulin. The result: the blood sugar level rises.
📌 Factors that can contribute to insulin resistance:
- High blood pressure
- Elevated blood lipid levels
- Impaired glucose tolerance
- Pregnancy
- Genetic predisposition
- Advanced age
- Lack of exercise
- Overweight/obesity
👉 Understanding these factors is crucial to prevent and better control diabetes.

🩸 What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the body's ability to regulate blood sugar levels - a crucial source of energy for our cells.
🔹 In type 1 diabetes, the body produces too little insulin.
🔹 In type 2 diabetes, insulin is produced but the body cannot use it properly.
If blood sugar levels remain too high for a long time, this can lead to serious complications:
❤️ Cardiovascular disease
🩺 Kidney damage
🧠 Nerve damage
👁 Visual disturbances
🌍 With millions of people affected worldwide, diabetes is one of the biggest challenges for public health.

🍭 What is diabetes - and how is it related to weight?
There are two main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2.
🔹 Type 1 diabetes:
Develops when the pancreas produces little or no insulin.
🔹 Type 2 diabetes:
The pancreas produces insulin, but the cells do not respond to it properly - this is known as insulin resistance. Sugar remains in the blood and can cause the following damage:
❤️ Heart attack
🧠 Stroke
👁 Blindness
🦵 Amputations
🩺 Kidney failure
📊 Weight & diabetes:
- Obesity (BMI > 30) increases the risk of type 2 diabetes by 85%.
- Over 34 million people in the US live with type 2 diabetes - and 88 million with prediabetes.
⚖️ Why is losing weight so important?
Excess fat - especially belly fat - is one of the main causes of type 2 diabetes.
A weight loss of just 5-10% of body weight can:
✅ Significantly improve blood sugar levels
✅ Reduce the need for medication
✅ In some cases, even reverse diabetes
But we also know that losing weight is not easy. That's why long-term, sustainable solutions are needed.

🩵 What is the connection between the lymphatic system and fat metabolism?
Get a quick overview here!
1️⃣ Fat transport:
When we eat fat, it is broken down in the small intestine, forms so-called chylomicrons and is transported into the blood via the lymphatic system - where it is either used as energy or stored.
2️⃣ Lymphoedema & fat:
Lymphoedema occurs when lymph fluid builds up in the legs, for example. Long-term congestion can lead to fat deposits (lipoedema), which are difficult to reduce through conventional weight loss.
3️⃣ Fat and lymph flow:
Excess fat, especially in the abdominal and leg areas, can put a strain on the lymph channels and block lymph flow - which makes swelling even worse.
4️⃣ Cleansing function of the lymph:
The lymphatic system helps the body to remove waste products - including from fat cells. If the lymph does not function properly, residues remain in the body and can promote weight gain.
5️⃣ Immune system & fat:
The lymphatic system is central to our immune defense. Being overweight affects both lymph flow and the balance of the immune system - so healthy lymph flow is essential for the entire body.
✨ In short:
A healthy lymphatic system supports fat metabolism, the immune system and weight control!

One of the biggest health risks associated with obesity is type 2 diabetes.
Did you know that around 8 in 10 adults with type 2 diabetes are also overweight or obese?
Permanently elevated blood sugar levels can cause serious secondary diseases - including cardiovascular disease, strokes and kidney damage.

🧠 Mental health is like a pendulum - the more we try to suppress the "bad" or run away from it, the more it swings back towards the "good" at some point 🙂😶☹️
💡 An aha moment:
Wellbeing is not simply "either or".
Studies show: Just because we don't have an illness doesn't automatically mean we're well - especially in terms of our mental health.
Not being bored doesn't mean you're inspired.
And treating depression doesn't automatically mean experiencing joy or quality of life.
💪 Building mental strength means more than just eliminating the negative.
Protecting yourself, seeking help and dealing with stress is important - but it's just as important to actively promote the positive.
👉 Feed your mind. Build your wellbeing. Exercise your "mind muscle".
The presence of positivity > the absence of negativity.
