It is an ancient natural wisdom of health and healing, a science of life and longevity. This science of long life stems from the great Vedic civilization of India and stands as the most ancient and comprehensive health system in the world. It is based on the timeless knowledge that expresses itself in perfect balance, the foundation of lasting health, satisfaction and beauty. Health in Ayurveda means harmony, and there is no end to the degree of harmony that we can achieve if we put our minds to it. In Ayurveda, Srotas are the subtle channels that carry everything your body needs—air, water, nutrients, even waste. When these channels flow freely, we thrive. But when they’re blocked, imbalance and disease can arise.

This post breaks down the different types of srotas, how they work, and Ayurvedic lifestyle tips to keep them clear—especially important in the summer heat!

Keep your srotas in balance, and your whole system will thank you.

The 4 Pillars of Ayurveda form the foundation of this ancient holistic system of medicine, guiding individuals toward optimal health and balance.

🥦1. Aahara (Diet)
Ayurveda emphasizes that diet should be tailored to an individual’s dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and seasonal variations, eating fresh, seasonal, and whole foods.

Focus on mindful eating - consuming meals in a calm environment without distractions.

🎯2. Vihara (Lifestyle and Behavior)
Daily routines (Dinacharya) and seasonal practices (Ritucharya) align an individual with the rhythms of nature. Maintaining consistent wake and sleep cycles, regular physical activity and yoga.

Avoiding behaviors that disturb mental or physical balance, such as overwork or indulgence.

🧘‍♂3. Achara (Mental and Emotional Wellness)
The state of the mind and emotions significantly influences physical health.
Practice mindfulness, meditation, and self-awareness, cultivate positive relationships and ethical living. Manage stress through pranayama (breathing exercises) and relaxation techniques.

💆‍♂4. Chikitsa (Therapeutics and Treatments)
Therapies and treatments aim to restore balance in the body, mind, and spirit when imbalance or disease arises. There are personalized healing regimens based on an individual's constitution and imbalances:

* Panchakarma (detoxification therapies)
* Herbal medicines and remedies
* External therapies like massages, oil treatments, and fomentation

Celebrate progress and milestones, no matter how small. Achieving balance requires consistency and adaptability. Small, sustainable changes over time can lead to profound improvements in health and well-being.

Namaste.

Ayurveda’s extensive historical use and the efforts by organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote its safe use and standardization have all contributed to its worldwide growing acceptance. Since its inception in 2016, Ayurveda Day has now become a global movement.

Expectations from the Ayurvedic solutions:

🌿Ayurveda, with its focus on holistic well-being, is expected to offer a unique remedy to managing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and cancer.

🌿The growing problem of antimicrobial resistance requires alternative treatment methods, and Ayurvedic remedies, rooted in herbal medicine, present sustainable options.

🌿As climate change exacerbates health risks, Ayurveda’s emphasis on lifestyle management, mental health, and care for the elderly provides resilient solutions for vulnerable populations.

🌿As societies face challenges like nutritional disorders and mental health crises, Ayurveda’s approach to balancing the body and mind becomes increasingly relevant.

☀ Grishma Ritu ☀

Grishma Ritu is an important season preceded by the spring season and followed by the rainy season. Penetrating sun rays and scintillating heat have a drying effect on our bodies and the environment. It is imperative to make lifestyle modifications as the seasons change to stay healthy and active. Taking more fluids, cutting on spicy/greasy meals, and using cooling aromas are a few of the important measures to sail through the two months of the Grishma ritu, easy and breezy. 😊🥰
