Pilates-based movement classes My practice and teaching is centred around reclaiming our agency in movement, feeling all of ourselves with compassion and restoring balance, ease and resourcefulness in our actions. I coach clients in private lessons as well as group offerings in Somatic Education as an ISMETA registered Clinical Somatic Educator in the tradition of Thomas Hanna since 2014 and am an Adjunct Teacher in the Essential Somatics Movement Teacher training for the European/UK as well as the North American (USA/Canada) students. My passion for passing on this knowledge has allowed me to travel within Ireland, the UK and Europe, as well as teaching students from all around the world in online lessons and mentoring for Somatic Movement Teachers. I am also a practitioner in training for the Buteyko Method (Breathing Education) under Patrick McKeown, a cancer rehab through exercise instructor and interdisciplinary movement teacher teaching Pilates and dance.

Back in Ireland and ready for the rest of 2025.
Samhain is upon us, time to hibernate afterwards until the sun pulls the plants back out of the earth!
I have some space on Saturday for one to ones, between 11 and 1pm - enjoy learning strategies to slow down and settle.
Some of the workshop participants this weekend reported that their recorded sleep phases while we practiced Somatic Movement.
Wouldn't it be great to be able to give yourself this kind of rest before the end of the year madness starts?

I love working with my parent's generation and up. My clients progress in strength and mobility, and feeling capable and ready to garden, walk into town instead of taking the bus, and get up and down on and off the floor with ease.
If you have a friend who might need some structure in regaining strength and movement abilities, send them my way! I offer Somatic Movement Education, breathing re-education, Pilates - both supported by a reformer as well as mat work, modified to specific requirements.

I love what my client told me last week, her progress from being unsure of how to move, having difficulties getting up and down due to knee replacement - now she can easily get up without using her arms to push or pull herself into standing AND she can put on her trousers in standing! Fantastic!

Looking for the ease and spring in your step again, walking, hiking and cycling confidently?
I specialise in working with clients who are 'new to movement' - not being particularly active, with aches and pains and not enough knowledge to simply start a Youtube workout at home. Or you might just recover from an illness, have a long-term treatment or just cleared for movement again.
For about 10 years, I work with clients over 70, clients with fibromyalgia, clients in cancer treatment, with past trauma and anxiety.

My signature workshop, refined over the last years of teaching. Find ease by noticing, connecting and releasing tension patterns developed in your face (eyes and jaw), neck and pelvic floor.

We take a bird's eye perspective, zoom in lightly, amd join the dots. What is connecting tension that holds our centre rigid? Enjoy learning small, gentle and surprising movements to unravel these fullbody tension patterns.

November 2nd 4pm Irish time. 2 hours of slow, soft movement just for you. Can't come? I also teach this material as one to one sessions. Or join and receive a recording!

I love traditional colourwork that has good readability (you know easily when you made a mistake) and a nice rhythm. The yarn is a teal amd oatmeal Novita 7 Veljestä I bought in Finland - inexpensive, lovely to knit with and really keeps your feet warm!
I hope to make some more of these before Christmas, it's relatively quick to knit and engaging so my brain has something to focus on.

I'll be properly back working next week, so if you need to get some energy or restful movement, have a look at Saturday!

Didn't take pictures inside (there are great pictureson the website bordal.pt ), but I had an absolutely wonderful private workshop at learning how to create some of the stitches of traditional Madeirean embroidery.
Taught by the woman who overlooks and checks the quality of the pieces brought in by the artisans 👀 it is a very different way of working without a hoop - I think I actually prefer this as I find hoops cumbersome without a stand. Everyone was so kind and encouraging!
I printed the stencil on my hankerchief with indigo, then sat down in the middle of the workshop to learn and chat. Absolute bliss and I have something to show to my little sewing friends at Rathgar Junior School!
If you're ever in Madeira, book the workshop! Thursdays 10.30-12, or buy a kit and video on the website. You will appreciate the time and effort that goes into every piece you see in the shop! This is a state protected and quality checked traditional art and it's beautifully preserved and developed further at Bordal.
See the meticulous work on the handkerchief I bought vs my own learning piece..

Lovely feedback from all sides after our movement explorations at the This is Knit retreat in Wicklow!
The participants learned through experimenting how tension in one area of our body will affect tension overall. Especially when knitting and learning a new technique, our habits of holding ourselves take over the 'background colour'. We get a sore neck, because we keep our stomach tight, we get migraines from sliding the head forward and squinting at the pattern.
I shared my go to movements with this fun international group of knitters hailing from the USA, Canada, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, UK and Ireland. Lots of laughter and lots of aha-moments too! And knitting sprinkled in. Just how I like it.

Off to Macreddin Wicklow to teach Somatics at the This is Knit retreat in the afternoon! A beautiful day for it (and kind of nice that using public transport makes me arrive way too early, so I might be able to wander around a bit)
I started teaching a knitter focused Somatics workshop with before the first Woollin yarn festival, was it 2018? Since then I taught at both festivals that were held in Dublin, as well as at the Teaknit retreat in Cardiff, Wales.
I love combining my passions and create movement opportunities for crafters who work more stationary.

Our Story

SOMAdublin Restore your self with Somatic Movement Education Somatic Exercise Coaching Clinical Somatic Education I offer 121 clinical lessons which facilitate more ease and efficiency in your movement patterns, destress and help emotional regulation. You will learn how to refine your motor control and release otherwise hard to reach tensions - without stretching, gimmicks or therapeutic intervention. Results are long lasting and you become your own movement expert again. Somatic Movement in the tradition of Dr. Thomas Hanna and other somatic education pioneers is an excellent way of gaining more awareness and refine balanced muscle control without manipulations or painful movements. It's a structured, client-led educational process based in neuroscience. I participated in my first intensive movement teaching program at the age of 18 (at Iwanson school in Munich) and since then continued studying at Erika Kluetz School in Hamburg, as well as graduating from UL with an MA in Dance Performance with first class honours. I am a qualified Pilates teacher and have done numerous movement modalities workshops and continued educations, but nothing quite sticks like Somatic Movement! I am regular guest teaching for Dance Ireland (Association of professional dancers and choreographers in Ireland) in their professional development morning class program, as well as the healthy dancer / weekly wellness program; as well as guest lecturing at University of Limerick.
