Weekly online group classes
Mentoring for Somatic Movement Teachers
Online and in person private sessions
Pilates-based movement classes My practice and teaching is centred around reclaiming our agency in movement, feeling all of ourselves with compassion and restoring balance, ease and resourcefulness in our actions. I coach clients in private lessons as well as group offerings in Somatic Education as an ISMETA registered Clinical Somatic Educator in the tradition of Thomas Hanna since 2014 and am an Adjunct Teacher in the Essential Somatics Movement Teacher training for the European/UK as well as the North American (USA/Canada) students. My passion for passing on this knowledge has allowed me to travel within Ireland, the UK and Europe, as well as teaching students from all around the world in online lessons and mentoring for Somatic Movement Teachers. I am also a practitioner in training for the Buteyko Method (Breathing Education) under Patrick McKeown, a cancer rehab through exercise instructor and interdisciplinary movement teacher teaching Pilates and dance.

A great finish to a great day of teaching with my colleague - a beautiful sunset over the still frozen Baltic Sea followed by a lovely dinner at Paseo (cafe&grill&sauna) !

We worked on the more subtle layers of our Somatic Movement practice with a group of dedicated women - how to use the movements and repetition as a vehicle for our attention and presence, how to create constraints to become more clear on where we move and how and how to get better at doing nothing TM

On for a restful evening and a second day tomorrow in Espoo!

Planning another small group Somatics workshop day in May! A shorter beginner's session in the morning, followed by a Part 2 to the Finding Centre workshop I ran this month. Looking at May 9/10th potentially?

The world's next 4 knitters have knitted their first full row! Let the fun begin! 'Something happened!' 'I made a stitch!!'
It's fantastic to watch my crafty kids talk themselves through the movement of forming a new stitch. The swing between frustration and euphoria, the deep concentration... as adults we are really not very challenged with *brandnew* skills. We might branch out into similar activities based on our current skill set, but it's rare to do something really new and unfamiliar to us.

Which new skill would you like to learn? Mine is spinning on a wheel. The medium is fibre, the new coordination is treading a pedal at a consistent speed, while either hand has to do a different motion and feeling how much fibre is being used, the eyes have to check in with the hands, the bobbin, the remaining fibre...

Everywhere are signs of new life bursting from the soil. I had a real push to clear away leaves from concrete and discovering new leaves, first flowers and lots of bright green!

A new client who joined my class today experienced the wonders of Somatic Education and a fun work out - we worked with Somatic Movements to release the tension in the torso, followed by fun 💅 strengthening exercises and balancing.
If your parents are timid when it comes to exercising or have had surgery, injuries and just don't feel confident enough to join a group class, I LOVE working with the retired population!
In my studio, I utilise a reformer, bands, a high mat (no need to get onto the floor), some manual therapeutic education as well as lots of adjacent information about pain management, breathing, pelvic floor balance, revisiting exercises giving by a physio, etc.

'Excellence and Integrity!' Derek

I also teach specific classes at Live&Breathe on Wednesday at 12, Fit for Life. They're a great bunch of social friendly people who like a workout and are curious about movement (and up for shenanigans).

PM me if you would like to get a bit fitter, move better and feel more at home in your body!

New kit to play around with! A springwall to do standing work, use the rolldown bar, so many options especially for my clients who need one step at a time and are intimidated by all the moving parts of the reformer. It partly replaces a tower or cadillac. Perfwct for functional, upright springassisted movement training!
Now to get someone in who can securely attach it to the wall and we'll be ready to go!

So magical!!

Our Story

SOMAdublin Restore your self with Somatic Movement Education Somatic Exercise Coaching Clinical Somatic Education I offer 121 clinical lessons which facilitate more ease and efficiency in your movement patterns, destress and help emotional regulation. You will learn how to refine your motor control and release otherwise hard to reach tensions - without stretching, gimmicks or therapeutic intervention. Results are long lasting and you become your own movement expert again. Somatic Movement in the tradition of Dr. Thomas Hanna and other somatic education pioneers is an excellent way of gaining more awareness and refine balanced muscle control without manipulations or painful movements. It's a structured, client-led educational process based in neuroscience. I participated in my first intensive movement teaching program at the age of 18 (at Iwanson school in Munich) and since then continued studying at Erika Kluetz School in Hamburg, as well as graduating from UL with an MA in Dance Performance with first class honours. I am a qualified Pilates teacher and have done numerous movement modalities workshops and continued educations, but nothing quite sticks like Somatic Movement! I am regular guest teaching for Dance Ireland (Association of professional dancers and choreographers in Ireland) in their professional development morning class program, as well as the healthy dancer / weekly wellness program; as well as guest lecturing at University of Limerick.
