FUE is a extraction method in hair transplant surgery for hair follicle grafts where each graft is extracted individually from a wide area of the scalp by punching around each graft .

FUT is an extraction method too where a long thin strip of scalp is excised from the occipital (back) region of the scalp and where the wound is closed primarily without tension using a suture .The excised strip is then subsequently slivered and cut into its individual grafts by a team of technicians.

Both methods deliver the same individual hair follicle grafts but via a different process. There is obviously a linear scar after an FUT procedure which is normally hidden very well by the overlying hair so long as it is not buzzed below a 4 blade. But the hair should not be buzzed too closely after FUE either as it too is not entirely scarless ,because the tiny cuff of skin taken with each graft extracted contains skin pigment and hence its absence shows up as less skin pigment under the underlying hair if buzzed too tightly.
